Sounds to me like basically the same as being framed for a crime you didn't commit. 40 years? This is one of my fears in life , some weird scrweup send you to jail for life. I mean if she was looking at porn in the class sure thats bad, but it sounds like she wasn't.

Latham Green (mike), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 11:49 (eighteen years ago)

Whether or not she is innocent (and the article makes a pretty good case that she is), how can you get 40 years for surfing porn at your workplace, even if it's a school?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

Especially if it's a school, I would have thought.

We are talking America here.

Do these people have no common sense about internets?

Charmmy Kitty's Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (ex machina), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

Basically, if you are ever accused of surfing for pron on a computer, deny everything. It is almost impossible to prove it was you who did it, even if you did. If this woman stonewalls, she should get off, provided they still have innocent-until-proven-guilty in the USA.

The Real Dirty Vicar (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 15:18 (eighteen years ago)

DV: Julie Amero, a substitute teacher in Norwich, Connecticut, has been convicted of impairing the morals of a child and risking injury to a minor by exposing as many as ten seventh-grade students to porn sites.

Norwich porn a fluke, expert says

The Strange Case of Ms. Julie Amero: Commentary by Mr. Herb Horner (forensics expert witness for the defendant in the appeal)
http://www.networkperformancedaily.com/2007/01/the_strange_case_of_ms_julie_a_1.html

"This indicates that both the public, the school board, the authorities, and the law KNEW there was a problem in Windham long before Julie Amero set foot in a classroom. For the responsible parties this suggests criminal negligence in not upgrading EVERY school's anti-virus and anti-piracy software. Furthermore, by not providing policy guidance, procedural steps to take, and so on EVERY TEACHER in Windham county was being put at risk."

TOMBO7 (TOMBOT), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

between this and the 'blow-job with minor' case, i can live in confidence that the american legal system is the most fucked-up piece of shit in existence

the 'blow-job with minor' case

Revisit that thread/series of articles... I think you'll find the case was lot more complicated than the headlines led on. It occurred during a rape.

Tiki Theater Xymposium (Bent Over at the Arclight), Wednesday, 7 February 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

Well Nabisco, she either broke the cardinal rule (NEVER ADMIT TO ANYTHING) or else your country has abandoned the presumption of innocence.

or perhaps she was convicted by a jury of her peers who believed the evidence the prosecution presented. there's that too.

This is the second time in the past couple of days I've seen you type these exact words. Trying to foster another one of your hurtful, unfunny memes? Goddamn it I wish you'd give it a rest sometimes.
