Yes, I am procrastinating. And cold. And tired. I should sleep.

I think I've been causing myself brain damage by occasionally forgetting to breathe since I was about 17.

Was indulging in brie, crackers and white wine myself. Anyway, let me get these reviews in. (Thankfully I've already written them before I actually broke out the wine.)

Ha. She's busy writing an unsolicited amicus brief now, entitled "How distinctive Puerto Rican cuisine such as patitas de cerdo con garbanzo -- pigs' tongue and ears -- will, in some small way, influence my verdicts from the bench."

I'm dressed to exercise. The stationary bike is on the other side of the room. Let's see if I can pry myself out of this chair.

phlegm brûlée (j.lu), Thursday, 28 May 2009 01:06 (sixteen years ago)

Methodically working through everything on my work to-do list except the one that is very late and on which I am keeping important people waiting

ljubljana, Thursday, 28 May 2009 02:11 (sixteen years ago)

Avoiding 1. some late work and 2. replying to woman who has returned from holiday and noticed that a non-reversible decision was taken in her absence to do things not the way she wanted (decision was not mine, but apparently failed attempt to fudge things to look like she wanted after the fact was all mine, so I think I'm going to end up getting the blame from everyone), just in a little bubble of "ignore it till it's hometime", quite unlikely to work when it's not even lunchtime yet

(this would happen on the first day of my cleverer and more diplomatic coworker's leave - if she were in she could probably keep everyone happy, but I don't think I can manage that)

Posting on ILX when I should be a) soldering together a filter, b) working through some pd tutorial, c) mixing some thumping jams...
Seriously considering breaking out the Withnail DVD.

one year passes...

Any tips for NOT procrastinating?

The World Cup is on, I have a flexible work schedule and I have a thesis project I HAVE to finish. But I am sitting in front of it completely frozen.

Maybe I'll see what's in the fridge or play some Wii

Flowers By Pete (admrl), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 17:23 (fifteen years ago)

Don't think about the potential DISASTER that would result from not finishing, it'll just stress u out.

Can you think of one tiny aspect of the work, maybe some tangential research, that can be done from a comfy chair and doesn't involve the main project? Maybe if you can feel good and relaxed about doing that little part, you'll find yr motivation increases for one more step...and one more step...

the soul of the avocado escapes as soon as you open it (Laurel), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 17:25 (fifteen years ago)

If I sit on the couch and think "FUCK the floor is dirty, and I so do not want to wash it" I'll never wash it. If I sit on the floor and try to do any sewing or organizing books or putting away shoes or something else kind of "fun", and think "Jeez, as long as I'm down here I may as well wipe it up" and then I've done half the room in 5 minutes.

The project is a film that I have spent two years and a small fortune making. I am sat staring at a giant assembly edit and all I can see is a million unrelated fragments of sound and image that can be arranged in a million billion different ways. There is just no way to approach it without it seeming like some kind of unconquerable colossus.
