I bled a radiator! It's actually warm now.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 February 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)

Well done! Can you tell me how to do it?

I Tried to Use My Cock as a Bong (noodle vague), Saturday, 10 February 2007 12:05 (eighteen years ago)

You need a special key to loosen the radiator 'screw', and a towel, it makes a hissing sound, and some water comes out - then you tighten it back up again. It's nerve wracking.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 February 2007 12:07 (eighteen years ago)

I've been too frightened to do mine for about 5 years.

I Tried to Use My Cock as a Bong (noodle vague), Saturday, 10 February 2007 12:10 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, and like they shouldn't be on at the time!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 February 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

haha good one

friday on the porch (lfam), Saturday, 10 February 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

I fixed my sink! The water was only coming out at about half strength and I totally pwned it!

I'd never even heard of radiator bleeding until I opened this thread. It sounds 1,000,000x cooler than what i did.

Thermo Thinwall (Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 10 February 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

How can I make my radiator *stop* warming up my room? The screw thing that says "open" and "close" seems stuck on "open," but it would probably be a bad idea to turn it off completely anyway. It's fine in late afternoon and evening, but for some reason when I wake up in the morning it's unbearably hot for a few hours, and I have to open the windows. It's *snowing* outside. I think I do not understand radiator care.

My small achievement was running up this hill yesterday and not noticing I was on a hill until I was over the top. I was proud until this skinny blond girl raced past me.

Maria (Maria), Saturday, 10 February 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

Hmmm, my radiator is only on or off, I'm afraid. I'm not brave enough to tackle the thermostat yet, coz it's under the gas fire and my puppy bites my head when I try and take a look.

Cool! Thermo, sinks look more complicated to me!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 10 February 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

Last Thursday, I figured out how to get messages out of my office voicemail without asking anyone. This is the sort of embarrassing situation a person can get into when they take a new job, set up their voicemail, then go work out of the office for three months. There was a message when I came back briefly after Thanksgiving; the little red light was still blinking damningly in early January, and still hadn't stopped on its own accord in the past two weeks. So I bit the bullet. "You've been selected to win a chance for a FORD EXPLORER!!!" Hahahahaha!

Jaq (Jaq), Saturday, 10 February 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

my restaurant every so often has contests for employees. i win every single one of them. last contest i won $350. today they just announced a new one with a plasma tv and an ipod as prizes. fingers crossed.

I was crabby yesterday, which was not an achievement.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)

I got to work close enough to on-time that nobody noticed!

Will M., Thursday, 22 February 2007 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

Despite my aching shin, I managed to walk from the bus stop to work. :/

Michael White, Thursday, 22 February 2007 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

I finally walked about a block away to the post office and paid the council tax bill that's been hounding me since 2002.

Gukbe, Thursday, 22 February 2007 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

I filled a number of small holes in my wall with Polyfilla, then sanded them down, then sugarsoaped the wall, then painted it with two coats of matt. I no longer live in an episode of the Young Ones : (

caek, Thursday, 22 February 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

t**t, Thursday, 22 February 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

Done and done, M. (Warning: aside from eating tomatoes, there is nothing here to do, aside from pleasant conversation, drinks and birdwatching on the back deck.

Rock Hardy, Thursday, 22 February 2007 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

Laurel, Thursday, 22 February 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

I filled a number of small holes in my wall with Polyfilla, then sanded them down, then sugarsoaped the wall, then painted it with two coats of matt.

You call that a small achievement? That's fucking HERCULEAN.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 22 February 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

Which matt did you use and how do you paint with coats is the real question.

Michael White, Thursday, 22 February 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

i moved some hooks

mark s, Thursday, 22 February 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

I wrote a condolence email to my neighbor, who lost her husband. Phew.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:09 (eighteen years ago)

I went out in the rain, crossed the road, posted a letter, and came back. High five!

DavidM, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

I finished the 7th dungeon in Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.

nickalicious, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:15 (eighteen years ago)

there is nothing here to do, aside from pleasant conversation, drinks and birdwatching on the back deck.

this is bad?

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

I have a huge block when it comes to paying bills. It's not about the money as such, it's about the bother of writing the check, writing your account number on the check, entering it in the check register, subtracting the amount, ripping the right piece of the bill off to remit, putting it in the envelope so the address shows through the window, writing your return-address on the envelope, finding a stamp... THIS FOR EVERY FUCKING UTILITY AND CREDIT CARD!!!! EVERY MONTH!!! ACK!!! MY NERVES!!!!!

Beth Parker, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

Beth, what the hell? Call upon the internets and you will be saved.

Laurel, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:24 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, srlsy, I can't think of the last time I ever paid a bill with a stamp and stuff.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

already did my taxes and believe me it's a SMALL achievment

m coleman, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

ack, I need to do mine. but I'm going to have to go to someone b/c I donated a car this year.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

YOUR TAXES!!! THAT'S HUGE!!!!
You're right. I should pay bills online. I started to do that, but for some reason I lapsed back to the stone age.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

when my dad died I donated his car to his cousin the catholic priest -- what could be more altruistic eh -- and it turned out to complicate the fuck out of the tax situation. you think they'd encourage giving stuff away?

m coleman, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

If I didn't have bills autmatically coming out of my account, I would forget to pay them on time.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:33 (eighteen years ago)

switching to paying bills online has been one tech-related headache after another for me

m coleman, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:34 (eighteen years ago)

Silly question, probably: Does everyone in America have to do taxes? Is there no direct income tax?

jel --, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:37 (eighteen years ago)

Not if you don't have any income of any kind! But all in all I suspect that's more inconvenient than taxes.

Laurel, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

it is taken out of most peoples checks directly (exceptions being self employed, some service industry) but you still have to file a report at the end of every year to make sure all income has been declared and you haven't over or underpaid.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

I'm self-employed, and my husband works for a family business, so our taxes are WAY complicated. I keep track of all receipts, car repair bills, mileage, work-related medical expenses, sunblock, everything. I write off my home garden, because it's my lab. He writes off office repairs and CD purchases if they're the kind that have to do with his job (music publication desktop publishing). Then we give all the figures to our accountant, who does the rest and pays quarterlies. It's expensive but worth it.
My husband does do the boys' taxes, though. They're pretty simple.

Beth Parker, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:50 (eighteen years ago)

i went thru all of my digi-photos stored on disc and am having them printed finally! advice? print as you go! do not wait years!

Ai Lien, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

I bought a coffee from a shop that I've never been into before. For some reason this always makes me feel anxious.

badg, Friday, 23 February 2007 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

this is bad?

My generally sour attitude toward Mississippi dissolved before I even got to the end of the sentence. Too nice a day today.

Rock Hardy, Friday, 23 February 2007 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

i managed to get a stuck milk dud from the bottom of the box without tearing the cardboard or hurting my finger.

estela, Friday, 23 February 2007 01:05 (eighteen years ago)

I cleaned the bathroom.
Replaced windshield wipers and one tail light on my car.
Cleaning the bathroom was the big achievement of small achievements...there are just so many corners and crevasses and such, AND I like it to gleam by the end. And it's a hands and knees kind of scrubbing.

aimurchie, Friday, 23 February 2007 03:20 (eighteen years ago)

I finally photographed a bunch of my paintings. The photos were practically all blurry, but hey, don't be picky.

Beth Parker, Friday, 23 February 2007 04:27 (eighteen years ago)

I came second in my interview! Thus avoiding the difficulty of turning them down.

jel --, Friday, 23 February 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

Put away the laundry!

Beth Parker, Friday, 23 February 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

otm!!

Mark C, Friday, 23 February 2007 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...
I painted a room! There are only a few patches of the old colours showing through.

It's the best thing I've done all year. Man, I love doing the gloss paint bits, got to use a cool mini-roller. Plus, also, I got to walk around Wickes like I knew about DIY and stuff.

jel --, Monday, 9 April 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

i've just installed some tax software. now procrastination, haste, and panic are just a few clicks away!

tremendoid, Monday, 9 April 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

I bought books for my next two classes.

Also, I'm still awake right now despite feeling insanely tired.

Sara R-C, Monday, 9 April 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

Man, I miss having a radiator. It would be the perfect compromise for my wife and I. It was nice having that thing at full blast while having the window cracked open just a little bit.

Pleasant Plains, Monday, 9 April 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

3 hot dogs in 2 days

Jordan, Monday, 9 April 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

I've stayed late (for me) after coming in late this morning. The fact that I've done little to no work for the past hour is irrelevant. appearances have been made!

Ms Misery, Monday, 9 April 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

I just gave the dog a bath!

Autobot Lover (jel --), Tuesday, 4 November 2008 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

badpowderfinger (electricsound), Monday, 10 August 2009 06:54 (sixteen years ago)

I have meals planned for the rest of the week and this week's food has only cost about £40 and that's including free range chicken thighs, a kilo of ham, and a bottle of expensive New zealand Sauvignon Blanc!

Also I found us three perfect houses to move to, only we're not thinking of moving for, like, another year or two.

Sickamous (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 10 August 2009 07:19 (sixteen years ago)

Great Scott! It's Molecular Man. (Ste), Monday, 10 August 2009 14:35 (sixteen years ago)
