This thread is not about whether Manchester is better than Birmingham.

Rather the way that every debate on the BBC's 'Have Your Say' ends up in a depressing slanging match about 'PC' or 'multiculturalism' and whether there is in fact any point in having these debates anymore?

What does the BBC hope to achieve or is it a good way to let nutjobs let off steam?

Edward Trifle (Ned Trifle IV), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:21 (eighteen years ago)

Oh god, the BBC messageboards. Spare me...

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:32 (eighteen years ago)

Democracy means listening to opinions we disagree with, even when they come from subhuman fuckwits who ought to be rounded up and dropped on a desert island, preferably from 30,000 feet.

I Tried to Use My Cock as a Bong (noodle vague), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:33 (eighteen years ago)

I'm all for liberty and equal opportunities, but really these people should be banned from accessing any sort of online communicatory interface.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sure I've quoted Sid Vicious on more than one occasion, but he just about sums it up: "Don't talk to me about the man on the street. I've met him and he's a cunt."

I Tried to Use My Cock as a Bong (noodle vague), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:46 (eighteen years ago)

I mean seriously, these people are a fucking stain on our nation's character, the sooner they're sent back where they belong the better.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:50 (eighteen years ago)

only people who have attended one of our better universities should have the opportunity to to access any kind of online community interface. or read books. or breathe.

Well, all I'm saying is, England for the English.

I'm all for liberty and equal opportunities, but

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:55 (eighteen years ago)

I think he's parodying the style of BBC messageboard contributors. I hope he is.

I Tried to Use My Cock as a Bong (noodle vague), Sunday, 11 February 2007 09:56 (eighteen years ago)

ok you've been hacked, but I'm all for liberty and equal opportunities, but should be your sig

xpost: Don't you put words into my mouth, you northern monkey, go back to your skag habit and your factories, this country could do without your sort as well. C'MON YOU LIONS

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

is it a good way to let nutjobs let off steam

seemingly, yes.

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

MILLWALL, MILLWALL

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:02 (eighteen years ago)

oh dear, "creative writing" excercises to be handed in by tomorrow chaps

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:02 (eighteen years ago)

hey, it had you convinced for a while!

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

i really want to see you imitating those working-class types.
louis, give it everything you've got, that's a good lad, we know what you're capable of, you'll be submitting to Granta one day

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

actually no, the only thing which convinced me was "I'm all for liberty and equal opportunities, but" because that's you

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

you appear to be complementing a harmless bit of ILX prankery with some searing critical Exocet into the heart of my character. the depressing thing about THIS board, as i'm finding, is the amount people are willing to assume about you on really the most negligible evidence.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

But then I really, really don't understand why observing idiotic comments leads one to thoughts of violence rather than merely disgust. But i am a softie. Not that you've said as much on this thread (rather than just banning people's rights of interaction), but you have elsewhere.

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway, never mind the messageboards. Radio 4's Today actually devotes air-time to reading out the racist grunts of its listeners.

I Tried to Use My Cock as a Bong (noodle vague), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

earth to frogman henry: my first post on this thread should have alerted you to the fact that I'm familiar with the BBC boards, the next post set up the joke, and the subsequent few executed it. incidentally, where have i expressed the desire to enact violence? and not been joking?

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

yeh well i don't think you're racist like ethan trollet, just a bit stupid and classist. But you need to accept that I'm all for liberty and equal opportunities, but is not funny or clever. You've said that in various formations about two dozen times or summat.

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:15 (eighteen years ago)

where have i expressed the desire to enact violence? and not been joking?

people should be shot for liking/not liking x etc. as for joking, i don't find that shit funny. Ever learnt about history.

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

hang on, are you parodying an entirely different, although equally maddening, sort of BBC poster? if so, nicely done!

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

But anyway it's a case of "i learnt it from you daddy" i realise that. eg carlin and others.

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

i would attack noodle vague for his first point as pretty much encapsulating what i'm saying, but he's old and big enough to know he's a lost cause.

Frogm@n Henry (Frogm@n Henry), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:20 (eighteen years ago)

Plus I really do wish violence on those people.

I Tried to Use My Cock as a Bong (noodle vague), Sunday, 11 February 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

The BBC comments box is always at its best when it comes to the Mercury Music Prize and/or anything else to do with music. Every single time someone will say 'rap music? Put a C in front of that!' as if its the wittiest thing ever.

The most annoying thing about these threads is that the most recent comments are at the top of the thread rather than at the bottom where they belong. Reading everything backwards, no wonder it turns people into gibbering racists.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 11 February 2007 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

i hate it when you click to list comments by recommendation and the top one is some single sentence 'zing' or dumb motto.

Culturally, Manchester has produced influential bands such as Oasis, the Stone Roses, the Happy Mondays, and Joy Division over the past 20 years.

Comparatively, Birmingham is known as the home of luminaries such as Jamelia, Black Sabbath and UB40.

But Black Sabbath >>>>>>>>> all of those Manchester bands!

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 11 February 2007 14:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'm amazed it wasn't a bunch of comments saying "What is England's Second City" Answer : "London!"

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Sunday, 11 February 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

Perhaps, but those are NOT the best Manchester bands, Matt.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

Louis prefers Northside.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Sunday, 11 February 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

Elbow, The Fall, Oceansize, Working For A Nuclear Free City and Magazine are all better than the bands you list, IMO.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

You lost me at Elbow.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Sunday, 11 February 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

They're better than Justin Timberlake, you know.

to scour or to pop? (Haberdager), Sunday, 11 February 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't know he was from Birmingham.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Sunday, 11 February 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

He's not, he's from Dudley. He's just a plastic Brummie like everyone else from there though.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 11 February 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

The Zoo's good tho.

Birmingham has better curries and more miles of teenage prostitutes than Venice has canals.
