To cut a long story short, I have just discovered that this evening I have to go along with my husband to a bit of a "do" for the duaghter of one of his co-workers. The co-worker is a good mate of my husband's. His daughter was 21 on Tuesday, making her birth date 20th February 1986.

She's quirky and fun, very artistic and talented, with a big interest in mysticism and white witchcrafty things. I think she might be a Wiccan, not sure.

We have to take a birthday gift along (obv) and knowing Holly, she'd really like something unusual and hand-made. I'm stuck at work until 5 o'clock, so my only resource is the internet AND YOU!! I'd like to put together a scrapbook type thingy for her all about 1986, with music/news/pop culture references from that year etc etc. the more unusual and quirky the facts, the better. I have an excellent laser colour printer here, so links to pix are most welcome.

I'm googling like mad, but I really need your help!! Please can you post links, facts, pictures, ANYTHING which I can use to start creating this yearbook for her? With all of ILX pitching in, I might just stand an outside chance of getting this done and put together before we have to see the family tonight.

February 20th, 1986. What was goin' on then???? POST IT ALL HERE!!

my fave memory of 1986 - THE BEASTIE BOYS!

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 13:45 (eighteen years ago)

The number one single in the UK as of 20 February 1986 was the noble Sir William Ocean with his thrusting Thatcherkid anthem "When The Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going." In second place was the popular, "wacky" sitcom star Su Pollard with her heart-rending "Starting Together," the theme from an early BBC reality series about weddings, or possibly even just the one wedding.

Europe - The Final Countdown = 1986.

jel --, Thursday, 22 February 2007 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

I'd just like to say a very big thank you to everyone for their help. I got this finished (with only minutes to spare!) before the party last night - 25 sheets of A4 card, bound together with silver ribbon, and filled with a pretty comprehensive record of the year of her birth, all decorated scrapbook-stylee with pictures of vinyl records, film stills, song lyrics, panini stickers of-the-day etc etc plus photos of the birthday girl which I'd managed to get hold of from her parents.

Holly absolutely loved it, and it made her cry! She said she was really touched because I must have spent weeks and weeks compiling it all .... I told her no, it actually took a couple of hours plus the help of an international posse of message board mates. Which raised a few eyebrows at the party, but never mind :)

Many thanks again. You are stars.
