They're imported threads from old ILX. Because old ILX had two names for people -- login and display -- it was hard to choose just one. So we've had both, so you can work out what's what.

It's not that the policy could never change, it's that this is the current setup while other things are being tested first (ie, making sure the board works, etc.). Stet and/or Keith will have more to say about this; also, there is a FAQ being drawn up which will talk about the current status of the board and certain features.
