So many lolz in but a few hundred words

Where do you want to start, the tortured illogic or the many tortured analogies?

kingfish, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

Most female athletes would prefer not to shower together with men not because they hate males (though some of them no doubt do), but because they hope to avoid the tension, distraction and complication that prove inevitable when issues of sexual attraction (and even arousal) intrude into the arena of competitive sports.

G00blar, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:30 (eighteen years ago)

Uh. If straight males are uncomfortable with the idea of showering with a grossly overweight woman, I don't think it's because of the tension created by desire only moving in one direction, it's more that there's a grossly overweight woman with naked flab jiggling right in front of them.

jaymc, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

Something reminds me of the pro-homeschool dominionist type that Thom Hartmann had on his show this morning, talking about how all hate crimes legislation must be stopped. It's like the entire point of this full-on fundie movement is just so they can continue to hate on gay people, which the guy proceeded to do as the conversation suddently veered into why he thought gay people were abhorrent, etc

kingfish, Thursday, 22 February 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

More like Michael Manlove, amirite?

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

Men are tremendously whiny about the possibility that someone they don't approve of might be attracted to them, considering that this is pretty much the daily condition of most women.

nabisco, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:06 (eighteen years ago)

are straight men uncomfortable with gay men showering with them? just curiosity, it struck me that i really don't know, not playing team sports or frequenting gyms very often...

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

Not really, as a fat middle-aged man with a small cock.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

Tho I might be uncomfortable showering with Michael Medved.

Noodle Vague, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

TS Medved's article vs. the classic.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

Just as with Dennis Miller's "comedy," you could tell from MM's movie reviews that he was a fuckwit long before he pinned his entire identity on it.

Dr Morbius, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

For me, the idea of showering with a group of people is uncomfortable enough on its own, without bringing sexual preference into it.

jaymc, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

nabisco the most otm ever upthread.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

The really amazing part is the idea that a gay player making loads of money in major-league sports -- having presumably played well through both high school and college, spent countless uneventful hours among sweaty athletes in showers, and acquitted himself well enough on the field/court to wind up going pro -- is going to be giggling his way around the locker room snapping towels at people and trying to cup their balls and shit.

nabisco, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

isn't that what the straight players do?

lex pretend, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

I like this response,
about how maybe Medved is obsessed about all those big black basketball boners, and he wouldn't feel comfortable in a steamy environment packed to the rim with such bobbing knobs

kingfish, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

bah. i hate bbcode

kingfish, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:21 (eighteen years ago)

bigbonercode?

jaymc, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:23 (eighteen years ago)

ditto nabisco.

I like how dude totally mistreats "the obvious, often overwhelming potency of human sexuality."

I was sort of willing to give him an ear wrt sexuality in the locker room, but he was such an idiot, and then I realized he was translating all of this from "I hate gay people." That is not an ambiguous statement, dude.

Fluffy Bear, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:23 (eighteen years ago)

er, ditto nabisco's comment about the ladies xxxxxpost

Fluffy Bear, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

It must torture him to be in the movie industry, and have to be surrounded by and constantly exposed to the work of deviants.

kingfish, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:25 (eighteen years ago)

The funniest thing Medved ever wrote was the section of his anti-Hollywood screed in which he catalogued the number of urination scenes in contemporary American film.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

many (if not most) Americans no doubt share his instinctive reluctance to share showers and locker rooms with open homosexuals.

Thanks for projecting your prejudices onto America, asshole.

jessie monster, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

he catalogued the number of urination scenes

jesus. well, if you have a compulsion, might as well run with it.

kingfish, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

omg this guy is fucked up in so many ways. last paragraph boggles mind.

jessie monster, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:44 (eighteen years ago)

I like his distasteful tone with "open homosexuals", as if they all ran around 24/7 dressing/acting like Hard Gay

kingfish, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

he probably assumes all gays are like that, and are totally ignorant of the gay men in his gym's shower. OMGZ MEDVED U R BEING EYERAEPED BY FAGS EVERY DAY!!!!!

jessie monster, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

and IS totally ignorant.

jessie monster, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:47 (eighteen years ago)

this is wtf

due to the fact that attraction can only operate in one direction.

when he's talking about the obese women showering with men. . .is he saying that attraction is only ever one-sided or that nobody would ever be attracted to an obese woman?

what a moran.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

"NO FAT CHICKS" = "I ARE STRAIGHT"

nabisco, Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

The funniest thing Medved ever wrote was the section of his anti-Hollywood screed in which he catalogued the number of urination scenes in contemporary American film.

He must love Short Cuts!

David R., Thursday, 22 February 2007 21:59 (eighteen years ago)

It's the fact that he groups straight men in with women in this scenario. Just like women, straight men have to be protected from men leering at them. Like TEH GAYZ are going to start behaving like the men did in the first series of Cagney and Lacey.

s1ocki, Saturday, 24 February 2007 04:55 (eighteen years ago)

Those who suggest that a person could shower with Michael Medved without risk of arousal are correct.
