Sherry trifle (though mostly just at Christmas)

Actually, according to This list of retro recipes there are quite a few foods which were all the rage in the 1970s which I still cook today ... lasagne, chilli, cauliflower mornay, moules mariniere etc

Chicken a la King, oh my god, my mum used to make that all the times. We used to call it Chicken a la Mrs. King after the friend she always made it for.

Oh I love a good sherry trifle! What was that thing they used to do at Wimpys way into the 80s (and for all I know they may still do it...)? Something like Brown Derby? Sounds unlikely...

Big C Casseroles.

What are they? It sounds like a schoolboy euphemism for women with large breasts.

It was called a Brown Derby and I suppose it was meant to look something like that restaurant. It was a doughnut with choccy sauce and nuts. I seem to remember it being delicious and would probably eat one now if there was a Wimpy in the vicinity.

That list is great CJ. Vol-a u-vents!

And (something I do still eat) Trout with Almonds. With chips! Lovely.

It's interesting how so many of the recipes involve the use of butter and cream - the 1970s must have been the Cholesterol Decade.
