Mark G, Monday, 26 February 2007 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

I've never heard of any of those people. Is this about a british reality show?

Ms Misery, Monday, 26 February 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)

2x

jaymc, Monday, 26 February 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

Shaun Williamson, Ricky Gervaise's co-star in Extras

Surely still better known as Barry off of Stenders, no?

Madchen, Monday, 26 February 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, but this way they get to mention Ricky Gervaise...

Mark G, Monday, 26 February 2007 21:04 (eighteen years ago)

Can I just go "NNGGGGGGGG" at Ricky Gervais' adverts for the Comic Relief DVD? Cheers.

ailsa, Monday, 26 February 2007 21:16 (eighteen years ago)

yeah no clue on any of these.

tehresa, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 03:22 (eighteen years ago)

WHA T THE HELL IS THIS CRAP

sanskrit, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 03:29 (eighteen years ago)

THEY'RE BRITISHES. Don't worry about, I bet there are tons of Britishes who don't know who lots of them are eitehr.

ailsa, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 09:16 (eighteen years ago)

I live in a parallel universe where these people are my minions.

nathalie, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 09:17 (eighteen years ago)

I R a fan of World Record Holder Tim Vine (got his DVD, love it)

StanM, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 09:23 (eighteen years ago)

Anyone seeing any of this?

Mark G, Thursday, 8 March 2007 10:30 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I watched it last night and they've really gone overboard down the CAN'T SING A FUCKING NOTE line this year. Only two of them (Tricia Penrose and Shaun Williamson) actually have any ability, the rest couldn't carry a tune in a bucket.

aldo, Thursday, 8 March 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

But it's all about the "Who do you like best" personality survey isn't it?

Mark G, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

Rowland Rivron - look, for fuck's sake man, stop struggling, call in the bailiffs, go away and start your life over. You'll feel such a weight being lifted off your shoulders.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

Has he not?

Played 'comedy drunk' for years, then he's clean and sober and with his kids on the Holiday programme (or one of them anyway)...

(and defending Jools holland on one of these here thread thingys back in the day)

Mark G, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

Then he should VANISH FOR 50 YEARS and reappear in a musty corner of a David Lynch film.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:34 (eighteen years ago)

Rivron was always lumbered with the crap holiday - bog snorkelling in Wiltshire or something, while the other presenters went skydiving in the Maldives.

chap, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:31 (eighteen years ago)

Tara's performance of Jolene last night was one of the greatest moments in British TV history. Faded, ruined, emotions laid bare - Parton recast as coke-raddled Sloane totty after all the champagne has long since run out. Marianne Faithfull with all her confidence long since shot away. Her magnificently tortured delivery : ("please don't take him just because you can") = genius. The way she stood - awkward, reluctant; the too-short skirt, the anxious glances at the audience; all added to the real pathos. She should make an album, she MUST make an album. It must include the Carpenters "Goodbye To Love", possibly "There's Always Something There To Remind Me", maybe "Rent" or "How Soon Is Now", I don't know. All I know is that I'd buy it.

Dr.C, Friday, 9 March 2007 08:47 (eighteen years ago)

Of the others, I luv Linda Robson. She's a nice person and gets a free pass for playing Joe Meek's landlady in 'Telstar'. Shaun Williamson is OK, Angellica is HOTTNESS, Zoe pisses me off, and Fred Macaulay should be bludgeoned to death. Oh likewise cross-eyed old Mel - can anyone explain why this woman is on TV?

Dr.C, Friday, 9 March 2007 08:52 (eighteen years ago)

Linda Robson in her heyday could have played Beryl, when Beryl's life and times eventually make the small screen, as they surely must. She's a little too old now though. A fine woman though. I'd like to live next door to her.

Dr.C, Friday, 9 March 2007 08:53 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, that Tara performance of "Jolene" was something else. Get the PSBs and/or Xenomania to produce an album for her and we're on to a winner (are we turning into Lex?).

(Similarly, on a Just The Two Of Us level, Penny Smith should make an album of screaming Beefheartian rock with assorted members of Acoustic Ladyland, Terminal Cheesecake and World Domination Enterprises)

Fred Macaulay should stay on dreadful old Channel 5 quiz shows featuring pre-fame Graham Norton where he belongs.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 9 March 2007 09:01 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I know you've got teh hots for Pennie!

Tara's really gone up in my estimation after that performance. She's fantastic! As for the halfwit Kielty's suggestions that she should shag Shaun Williamson - he should be bludgeoned to death also. I may well hunt him down and physically assault him myself, just to make sure the job gets done.

Dr.C, Friday, 9 March 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

No else saw this? Grouty?

Dr.C, Friday, 9 March 2007 10:35 (eighteen years ago)

Fred Macauley has permanently implanted Happy Talk in my BRANE :(

I really don't know what to say about Mel Giedroyc's Eye Of The Tiger.

onimo, Saturday, 10 March 2007 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

Tararapalmerboombeyay is doing The Tide Is High tonight. I anticipate a new record for flat notes hit in three minutes.

onimo, Saturday, 10 March 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

Just watching it for the first time. Barry can easily sing the best so far.

chap, Saturday, 10 March 2007 20:06 (eighteen years ago)

Just uping the Tara love - that Jolene she did was astounding. And she seems so nice. Is this possible? My daughter was in tears this morning having discovered that Zoe was gone. Five year olds take these things so seriously.

Barry can sing but good grief what is it with that sports commentator bloke - why do the judges love him so?

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

He shares management with some of the judges, if you want an honest answer.

Tara's "Tide Is High" was not apt. Mel's "Woman In Love" was astounding in some of the wrong ways. Perhaps they should have swapped songs.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:24 (eighteen years ago)

Tara was poor, but she is still magnificent. Mel has gone up in my estimation after WIL. Angellica went off the scale of HOTTNESS - OMG.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:34 (eighteen years ago)

I missed it last night. What happened?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:46 (eighteen years ago)

Oh shit, I missed it too!

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:47 (eighteen years ago)

Mel's out. She did "Move Over Darling."

But Tara did "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'."

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

OMG! I think they need to find some more serious material for Tara if she is to challenge for the title. She's not good with 'light' songs.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:51 (eighteen years ago)

Clearly it was one for the Sunday night Kleenex brigade.

If I were producing the show tonight I would have Tara sing - "Sister Morphine."

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

I've only seen part of one of these. Might see tonights though.

Aww, Mel out? She reminds me of Beth Orton as well...

Mark G, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

If I were producing the show tonight I would have Fred Macaulay sing - "Waiting Rooms" by Simon Warner.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

I'd shoot him.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:23 (eighteen years ago)

Afterwards.

I would have Ray Stubbs sing - "September Song" in the style of James Brown's version (which he does with a big band, totally ignoring the original tune - "And these few precious days! Uh! I'll spEEE-yee-EEE-nd with you! Overnight! God bless! I'm in a mess!").

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

I'd have Ray maybe do Theme For Great Cities by Simple Minds. Actually any instrumental would do.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

Or Lou Reed's showband version?

Mark G, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

I would have Barry Out Of EastEnders sing - "Rape" by Peter Wyngarde.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

I would have Ray Stubbs sing - "September Song" in the style of James Brown's version (which he does with a big band, totally ignoring the original tune - "And these few precious days! Uh! I'll spEEE-yee-EEE-nd with you! Overnight! God bless! I'm in a mess!").

That would be a start...

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe he should just rap. "Can't Forget About You" perhaps. "Ray Stubbs, the millionaire, the mansion."

I would have Colin Murray sing - "I've Never Met A Nice South African" by Spitting Image.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know if Marcello was being serious about Ray and the judges having the same manager but it certainly looked like it tonight - he was awful (doing Sweetest Thing!) and one of the judges was all "you've turned it into a ray stubbs song"...like it was a good thing.

Tara was good and heartbreaking again. I've voted.

Ned Trifle II, Monday, 12 March 2007 19:39 (eighteen years ago)

Fred is out. Who was he again?

I have a depressing feeling Colin is going to win.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 07:55 (eighteen years ago)

Well I thought Colin was OK last night. I liked Trish too. Tara was better, but needs to find another Jolene to stay in for much longer.

Dr.C, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 08:17 (eighteen years ago)

Tonight Tara must sing - "Party Fears Two."

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 08:24 (eighteen years ago)

God yes! (as if)

Mark G, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

Colin is such a grouch though and seems insanely competitive about the whole thing. He's got that look about him of a man who is just about to lose it and they scare me.

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 09:46 (eighteen years ago)

Shame on you, Dr C, you're a married man, you should not yield to such impetuous crushes!

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

Much as I want to see Tara win I think she may have a job on her hands with that song. AS long as she doesn't try and play the piano as well.

Shaun to win I suspect.

Ned Trifle II, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 11:16 (eighteen years ago)

"Her timing was a bit off"

Yeah, mr judge, she's playing a live piano alongside a pre-recorded backing, with no 'click track', it's going to be difficult.

Mark G, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

I missed it. Anyway, Stubbsy's out.

onimo, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

Tara continues - she was pretty good again tonight. Tara and Colin got through on the public vote, Trish by the judges vote and Shaun by his peers.

Well done Tara!

Dr.C, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Tara's performance was truthful. However I wish they'd let them sing the whole song though instead of a potted 90-second precis of it - and indeed they could do this by cutting out all the Big Brother house rubbish that no one wants to watch.

Unfortunately for Dr C Tara and Colin appear to be getting ascloseasthis...

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 15 March 2007 08:44 (eighteen years ago)

ascloseasthis

I couldn't work that out for a moment. I was trying to work out how to pronounce it and was getting ready to look for a medical dictionary.

onimo, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

asclo seas his.

Mark G, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:09 (eighteen years ago)

Although admittedly Tara seemed to be more enthusiastic about the closeness than Col...

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:12 (eighteen years ago)

OTM - like they really sleep in a poxy dorm.

That was Tara's 3rd best performance after Jolene and SOWN. She needs something special tonight though (doesn't everybody?) I predict a Shaun and Tara final now.

Some good dialogue last night :

Claudia : "Ray, you've blown everyone....erm, blown everyone away since you've been in the house"

So that's why he's so popular.

Trish : "Singing with Lemar, singing a song that he wrote himself....it doesn't get much better than that"

Actually I liked Lemar's song. But yes, it does get better than that, much better.

Dr.C, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

Mark you've set the poll to finish two weeks after the competition ends! It'll disappear off new answers and we'll never find out who won.

(possible ILX feature request? To have poll threads jump to the top of new answers when the poll ends?)

onimo, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

Tomorrow's the semi-final show. And we've got the exclusive playlist..

It's all set to be a rip-roarer, even if we do say so ourselves.

Colin's going to be stretching his vocal ability like never before with the mighty Boys Are Back In Town.

Tricia will be battling for a place in the final two with Too Lost In You.

Shaun's secret weapon is his most up-to-date tune yet: Snow Patrol's Chasing Cars.

And Tara's hoping to tug at your heartstrings once more with a timeless Beatles number: Penny Lane.

Oi! Barry! NO!

Penny Lane is so the wrong so for Tara.

onimo, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

Insert random words/grammar in that last sentence to suit yourself :-(

onimo, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, sorry about that, I realised I was way out on my "when is this Red nose day anyway?" guess about a day after I started it.

(possible ILX Feature request, or get mods to move the poll end date forward? can they do that?)

Mark G, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, Penny Lane doesn't auger well. She should do Eleanor Rigby.

Dr.C, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

Does anyone dislike Claudia Winkleman as much as I do?

Dr.C, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

Chasing Cars? Oh noe. He'll win it possibly...

Mark G, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:23 (eighteen years ago)

She makes me think of a polished shiny Tracey Emin.

onimo, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:25 (eighteen years ago)

onimo, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

also BAN "img {border: .1em solid;}"

onimo, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)

Tara should have done "Working Class Hero." If Marianne could get away with it, so could she.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:35 (eighteen years ago)

"Ballad of Jucy Jordan" why not?

Mark G, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:37 (eighteen years ago)

That should be "Juicy Lordan", of course.

Mark G, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:37 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, she would have been great with that as well.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:37 (eighteen years ago)

Lady Di should have been given that album (broken english, wasn't it?), it might just have saved he life!

Mark G, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:38 (eighteen years ago)

VOTE TARA!

Ned Trifle II, Thursday, 15 March 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

They're onto me now :

Tara ends Penny Lane :

Me : Aw that was GREAT!
Daughter : DAD! If that was anyone else you would have said it was crap!
Mrs. Dr. C : Yes, but it wasn't anyone else, it was (clutches heart, rolls eyes, sighs) TARA.

Dr.C, Thursday, 15 March 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa! Just watched the results prog. MY GIRL GOT THROUGH!

And you know what? SHE'S GONNA WIN!

Dr.C, Thursday, 15 March 2007 23:24 (eighteen years ago)

http://img131.imagevenue.com/loc24/th_7fd92_Tara_PT.jpg

Dr.C, Friday, 16 March 2007 08:31 (eighteen years ago)

Colin: "We're just friends." Looked as though he would greatly prefer to keep it that way too - Dr C you're still in with a chance if you play your cards right!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 16 March 2007 08:59 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Trifle II, Friday, 16 March 2007 09:06 (eighteen years ago)

Listening to radio 2 in the car this morning, Terry Wogan referred to Tararaboomdeay as "someone who looks like they left hospital too early".

C J, Friday, 16 March 2007 09:15 (eighteen years ago)

That's most unkind!

Dr.C, Friday, 16 March 2007 09:18 (eighteen years ago)

Let's hope Boring Robot Tricia doesn't beat her tonight!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 16 March 2007 09:26 (eighteen years ago)

She won't. Tara is now THE NATIONS FAVOURITE!

Dr.C, Friday, 16 March 2007 09:41 (eighteen years ago)

It's going to be standing room only at Cactus Blue tonight!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 16 March 2007 09:43 (eighteen years ago)

Everyone has me wrong about Tara - I don't fancy her, I just really LIKE her. I like her anxiousness and vulnerability. She could be fancied, tall is hott, posh is also hott, but I don't. If she was blonde (he said revealing utter shallowness) it might be a different story.

Dr.C, Friday, 16 March 2007 11:34 (eighteen years ago)

ANYWAY her spoken "portrait of the Queen" on "Penny Lane" was immaculate timing and delivery.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 16 March 2007 11:40 (eighteen years ago)

It was. She did the whole thing better than I expected. She should have done Jolene as the second song, but I guess 'Boots' was a crowd-pleaser.

Dr.C, Friday, 16 March 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

What was Rivron on about last night - he appeared to be pissed out of his head. At least it wound up the twit Keilty : "We need a name, Rowland!"

Dr.C, Friday, 16 March 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

He looked like a younger Harold Shipman.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 16 March 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

ha! And dear old Linda Robson looked like she'd partaken liberally of green room 'refreshments' too.

Dr.C, Friday, 16 March 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

And Tara wins!

Lock thread.

Ned Trifle II, Friday, 16 March 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

not until we get the poll results!

Mark G, Sunday, 18 March 2007 00:41 (eighteen years ago)

Was Rivron missing on the final night? I didn't see him in the line up. They made apologies for Stubbs but not Rivron.

Congratulations to Tara and all her supporters on this fantastic achievement.

Good a place as any: was I the only one laughing at Tony Blair's "amibovvered" sketch?

onimo, Sunday, 18 March 2007 02:00 (eighteen years ago)

I thought it very funny too.

Ned Trifle II, Sunday, 18 March 2007 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

Me too. I really like Catherine Tate, despite the fact that most of her characters are crap, his scripts are shite and outside of her own show she has been quite mediocre, albeit in some dire parts. Lauren Cooper is good though.

But.........TARA! YEEESSSSSSSSSSS!

Dr.C, Sunday, 18 March 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

I was wayy too long on that poll result date.

Mark G, Friday, 23 March 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

tomorrow? I can't remember

Mark G, Thursday, 29 March 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)
