Not as bad as you might expect. More Departed than Mystic River so far - though it's hard to imagine the crew of 5'4" brothers as criminal masterminds.

Marissa's sapphic love is pretty good in her small part.

I could detect very little Paul Haggis in it.

i could show you like 10 dudes who claim to have invented walker texas ranger.

This suggests a very bad porn scenario.

Oh wow:

"The show was initially developed by executive producer Derek Broostad and supervising producer J. Michael Straczynski when the series was still being produced by Cannon Television. While Straczynski had to depart to get his new series Babylon 5 on the air, Moessinger remained to finish developing the series."

Also:

In the eyes of a Ranger,
The unsuspected stranger
Had better know the truth 'bout wrong from right,
'Cause the eyes of a Ranger are upon you,
Any wrong you do he's gonna see,
When you're in Texas look behind you,
'Cause that's where the Ranger's gonna be

I saw this a year or so ago at the last big L.A. network screenings. Does the pilot episode still end with that Arcade Fire song blaring over the ending? I realized at that point how I will always be at the mercy of any filmmaker who plays a song I like over a slow motion montage of people looking thoughtful (i.e. almost every Six Feet Under, J.J. Abrams' work, etc.). No matter how shitty the material is, end it that way and I am putty in a hack's hands.

OK, so I'm one of 3 people in the word miffed that Studio 60 got yanked for this, but I would totally be on board for this Academy Award sanctioned drama bullshit if:

a) the promos weren't insufferably pretentious (lol @ Sorkin fan bitching about pretentions)
b) NBC didn't fuck up promoting S60 (their promos were awful, tho the show is nigh-unpromotable; also, matching it w/ super fun time HEROES, & putting it against CSI:MIAMI??!?!?)
c) they didn't whip out that portentous MONDAY IS... push last week - sorry, dudes, but MONDAY IS the night I take out my trash & watch Jack Bauer fuck up another perimeter, so suck my Donnelly.

David R., Tuesday, 27 February 2007 14:11 (eighteen years ago)

the show is nigh-unpromotablewatchable

s1ocki, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

scott seward, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

SHUT IT SLACKER

:D

David R., Tuesday, 27 February 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

i liked the ending. that diner waitress sure is purty.

scott seward, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

way better characters than studio 60, that's for sure.

scott seward, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 14:59 (eighteen years ago)

Not as bad as you might expect.

no, surpassing all expectations it was even worse. arch stereotypes, overwrought performances, and gigantic plot holes all added up to me laughing whenever they were trying to build to some dramatic peak. will not watch again.

chicago kevin, Tuesday, 27 February 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

BTW, the SHUT IT SLACKER comment was not to SS, but Le Slut.
