funny thing is, i'd been thinking of starting an ILX thread about investing -- to bat ideas around with ILX folks re that subject. circumstance has forced my hand, so to speak.

It's a "correction" as stated by most every well-informed pundit out there. I predict more losses during the rest of this week followed by a slow recovery. A dip like this is usually a good time to buy after all.

How much this is just a correction will depend in part on stuff we can't entirely predict such as the Middle East situation and in turn oil prices. I also think the housing market fallout will continue to have a long, slow effect. OTOH, the Chinese drop was in part due to deliberate govt. action to cool the market - could that send investor dollars into U.S. markets or is that not how this sort of thing works?
