Senior Old Labour lefty politician from the days of Benn and Hattersley. He's currently drumming up support as a possible candidate for Labour Party leader. Has he a chance? Policies include nationalisation of the railways and cutting fat-cat bonuses. What oo reckon?

"Was this inaction simply the result of key people disregarding, or being ignorant of, the evidence? Or could US air security operations have been deliberately stood down on September 11?"

Uh, the first one.

He has to be a stalking horse (not to excite a leadership bid obv, but to draw someone to take Broon oon). Meacher isn't terribly offensive, though he's had his moments, but in no sense does he make a credible party leader. His briefs have all been fairly minor key, and it seems odd that he would emerge as the labour left's candidate of choice. In response to the thread's question, I wouldn't go so far as to describe him as either, really.
