Well, maybe more about Dr. Who than the Green Lantern.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

New geek answers!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Ned, I refuse to continue any correspondence with you about Doctor Who until you admit that your views on the Davison years are juvenile and ill-conceived.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Shan't.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

"Now, after all, is a critical time for GL fandom. The runaway success of Lord Of The Rings makes a Lantern movie a genuine possibility, given the heightened general interest in movies about rings that possess great power"

hehe!

jel, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

And your belief that the McGann so-called movie is part of the canon is beneath contempt. please report to the panopticon at once where your remaining regenerations will be confiscated. hur hur hur.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That's classic. Esp. the "You are still my friend. And I do not hate you. Though, frankly, deep down, I find myself pitying you" pay off.

N., Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love(d) the Davison years. Whose side does that make me on?

N., Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Mine! Soon we shall TAKE OVER THE WORLD.

Have any of the London folks ever been to Fitzroy Tavern? Apparently that's the big Who pub in the city.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

There's a big Who pub?

N., Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

OH YES!

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

yeah, Davidson was the best dr.Who.

jel, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

So Dan, are you a big rec.arts.drwho poster then?

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I used to be. I spent a lot of time wrangling with people over book discussions and whether certain trolling posters should be ignored or flamed. My Usenet handle is deX!.

Last time I popped my head into RADW, the climate had changed to the point where people hated Snarky as much as they hated John Long. I did a little dance of glee, as it bore out one of my predictions, then left because the group was still unreadable. I do try to find Finn's book reviews, though, and the recent discussion with Karen hashing out what she didn't like about _The Adventuress Of Henrietta Street_ was great.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Whoa, you were deX on ama... its all becoming clear now.

bnw, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

k-blimey, I've just googled your posts (sorry if that feels like cyber-stalking). you were in there all right! Were you some sort of moderator or something? We'll have to talk/mail some time, cos tho i never looked on radw, I really do/did know a lot of the london dr who crowd (writers, editors, etc).

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Was I a moderator? HEE HEE HEE. I was against moderating the group, largely because the way that people wanted moderation to be implemented was very ambiguous and open to abusing people who weren't actually causing the problems that were making the group unreadable. I did start seeing if there was interest in a seperate group for book discussion, but no one wanted to go for it.

I'm trying to think of writers I'm on good terms with or who would remember who I was. I'd love to hear the reaction when my name was dropped; I'm expecting it would be a blank stare and "Who was that?" or something along the lines of "That smug, self-righteous BASTARD."

bnw: Yes, I am that guy.

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

On only a mild tangent: Have you ever seen the British "Queer as Folk?". marvellous stuff. I don't know much about the US version except that they changed EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. You probs caught that one of the characters is a big who-geek.

Alan Trewartha, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, it was created by Russell T. Davies; of COURSE a character was going to be a Who geek! (I think that character is now a comic book geek; not as cool.)

Dan Perry, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have drunk in the Fitzroy many times, but not noticed any Doctor Who stuff/people in there.

RickyT, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Me too. All I have noticed is a bunch of advertising tossers filling up what used to be an OK pub.

Emma, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

it's something like every first thursday of the month. they are only dr who mad when you look closely. you notice magazines changing hands, and you get conversations like dr who/sitcom ideas (RObin's Nestene, Cyberman About the House, George and Eldrad). You occassionally get a hardcore Tom Baker scarf wearing fan who turns up looks around and leaves in a huff. Reason being the regulars draw in their horns (of nimon) when they see such gits. who-snobbery!

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dan's giddyness on this thread is scaring me.

Vinnie, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

Dan Perry, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, that's the one.

Vinnie, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tom Baker's my Dr Who, he was funny, and the filthy gossip peddled about him on Popbitch only makes it funnier

"Tom's putting it in now!"

chris, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Apparently Pat Troughton was also somewhat lecherous. Don't quote me on that, though; it's just some rumor I heard. (I do know that he and Frasier Hines used to enjoy pantsing Wendy PAdbury right before she was supposed to exit the TARDIS prop, though...)
