RFI: Early nineties TV series about a female werefolf.

Does anyone remember an American horror series from the early nineties about a female werewolf? She got friendly with a professor of folkloristics (or something), and he kept her locked in her cellar every full moon so she wouldn't hurt anyone. I remember it particularly well because the series started out as serious horror, but at some point evolved into parody. For example, there was one episode where they were spoofing Star Trek, and in another the woman and the professor got sucked inside a fifties werewolf movie, and when werewolf in that movie changed shape, the woman commented the stop-motion metamorphosis, saying "When I do that it looks much better."

Ha, E, according to Wikipedia I was about to graduate from college when it started. And I didn't have cable. Although I feel like I should have seen it, since it was on Fox Family, and I was relying on girlfriend's cable to see Freaks & Geeks on that channel!

It sounds like someone started developing a Buffy spin-off about Oz leaving town, but then couldn't get permission.
