What happened to the Momus newsgroup? Does anyone here give a care?

For what it's worth, James, I last posted on there at the start of this year. Haven't been back since, but it was certainly a pale, pathetic shadow of the place it once was (and which Tom and Kerry, at least, knew).

I do? :-( But the album's good fun! I've just been terribly lazy at setting up FT interviews, for which I apologize.

i don't really know what happened either. even the guy who used to make posts about "THE MOST AMAZING NEW ALBUM BY ANOTHER GENERIC UK ROCK ACT" has stopped posting... i try to keep it going to a degree but there's only so much i can say in the way of intelligence, you know?

things seriously got piss poor once robin, the count, & kerry kind of drifted away. nowadays, even adam, miles, pretty much everyone... all drifting away.

i certainly give a shit. i used to love the INTELLIGENT debates that went on... jeezus we don't even get all those penis enlargement ads anymore come to think of it...

now THAT, my friends, is a sign that things are bad. what's it gonna take? what am i gonna have to do to spark things up again?

james, robin, help me out! gimme some ideas!

OK Ned, I admit I was trying to goad you (a technique I learned from Momus). But there are some people who have received the LP and never responded to it/me at all. In fact I've lost a couple of friends over it. They think I'm obsessed with death or something. Your review is much appreciated and I'm going to post the link to it on AFM. Robin, I was meaning to email you today but I'll just go ahead here. In order to get a copy of your review in "Careless Whispers" I have to mail $8.00 to the UK plus postage, etc etc. Right now I'm saving "bank", so that will have to wait, please email the issue number. I agree with you and Mike that the fire has died, I too miss the AFM regulars. And I also used to think it was more fun, chancey and mysterious when Momus dind't post to AFM. Of course we all appreciate his views, but it's also like a visit from the headmaster.

One hundred lines for you, Lucas!

I think the main reason AFM is quiet is that I recommended everybody to come here instead.

Momus, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ah see i disagree with you on that one, nick. it seems that lately the group engages in tantric discussion- big slow, long buildups to one or two threads that seem to last for a week or two, where most everyone gets involved.

tantra is not for momus fans. leave the tantric discussion for the sting newsgroup, please.

in regards to everyone flocking here in place of the newsgroup, i honestly don't see everyone from AFM posting here often... indeed there are a few who give their fair share on these boards (i myself was included at one time), but even still, the regular cast of characters on AFM has disappearded and has not been replaced by new ones, mainly because there is hardly any activity on the board.

basically nick, in order to get some discussion going again, you need to either

a) go on tour b) release something c) post a new essay d) write some songs for other people and make us aware of it e) die

Hi everyone. I just dropped in to announce that......

I'm going to see Prince!

I'm going to see Prince!

In March. I'm pretty sure because I've got someone to camp out in line for me.

What if I cloned myself, sanded my clone's face to a smooth globe, ran naked and erect through a live TV broadcast, declared myself Emperor of Abyssinia, died, wrote songs for God and captured him singing them basso profundo on a Minidisc recorder, slew a famous fashion designer in cold blood at the climax of his Autumn/ Winter collection, herded a flock of albino sheep on the moon, died again, rose from the dead, invented a new vibrating suction pump with hot-swappable USB connectors, invaded Poland, made a model of the Taj Mahal out of a million matches and lit the last one? Would they talk about me then? WOULD THEY?

Momus, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I would.

richard john gillanders, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

nick, please write a song about all of that and put it on the new album. PLEASE.

and yes, they would.

you might even get into SPIN again, following the article on Stars Forever. they might even give you a full page.

Pitchfork may request an interview with one of the clones.

you may even inspire the Count to come out of hiding.

Who was it on AFM that posted that story about Momus killing me in a New York commune, or something?
