They were lauded then but would be in the Warneford today

They being the saints and prophets of old. They heard voices and had visions and would be regarded as needing psychiatric help were they alive today, yet before we understood a little about how the mind worked, they were regarded as special and amazing as they had a direct line from God!

Is this a fair analysis of the situation? Why is this fascinating subject discussed so little? Is it for fear of offending religious ppl?

(Warneford = psychiatric hospital round the corner from my home)
