Be There

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

Damn straight.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 5 March 2007 11:18 (nineteen years ago)

Where is the Harrison? Link, please?

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 11:40 (nineteen years ago)

The Harrison

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 11:42 (nineteen years ago)

Do the fortnightly psych-folk Sundays have anything to do with this decision?

Masonic Boom, Monday, 5 March 2007 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

I'm only just about coming out of a particularly nasty bout of the 'flu so I can't guarantee I'll be there but it would be nice to catch up with you so I'll do me best.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 5 March 2007 11:43 (nineteen years ago)

M - I will be there. It would be great to see you!

Dr.C, Monday, 5 March 2007 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

I think I will definitely be in attendance (this time with my wallet firmly sellotaped to me)

tissp, Monday, 5 March 2007 12:14 (nineteen years ago)

YES.

G00blar, Monday, 5 March 2007 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

Let's just say that Dave Q would find plenty to like at this pub. Or, more likely, just outside or around and about.

suzy, Monday, 5 March 2007 12:35 (nineteen years ago)

Have you been there since it was tarted up?

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 12:46 (nineteen years ago)

i have, it is nice. i didn't see any druq d34lers, but then i wasn't rly looking...

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

the harrison is lovely!

lex pretend, Monday, 5 March 2007 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

Do the fortnightly psych-folk Sundays have anything to do with this decision?

They're once a month now. And yes the Harrison is lovely.

braveclub, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

The guy who runs them did open mic at the magpie's nest, I think, although they have other things on sunday. I will try to go to the next one.

Ed, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:03 (nineteen years ago)

I walk past this every morning on my way into work, and always wonder why I have never been in it, so fab, see you there!

Vicky, Monday, 5 March 2007 14:51 (nineteen years ago)

Hooray hooray! :-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 6 March 2007 00:27 (nineteen years ago)

Who all's going then?

Dr.C, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:37 (eighteen years ago)

I'm in.

G00blar, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

I hope to be

Tom D., Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

earliest time of arrival? several friday plans but what they hey.

CharlieNo4, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

I'll probably arrive straight from office, so shortly after 5.

Ed, Thursday, 8 March 2007 13:53 (eighteen years ago)

I'll be there 5.30ish

Vicky, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:03 (eighteen years ago)

Am much better than I was but still sniffling and spluttering a little too much for my liking and I don't want to give anyone else my germs so I'll probably give this a miss. Sorry Ned!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:08 (eighteen years ago)

Oh no, Marcello. I was hoping you'd be there! I reckon you'll feel better tomorrow!!

Be there, or else!

Dr.C, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:12 (eighteen years ago)

Well I'll be in town tomorrow after work for record shopping; will see how I feel after that - if all OK, then logically I'll be in about seven.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I'm thinking 6 o'clock ish myself. Hope you make it!

Dr.C, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

7.30/8ih, prob. am skint again oh nooooo...

emsk, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

Aw, I used to live very close to this pub when I lived at Percy Circus. God, I loved living in that area. I miss London. Gah!

ENBB, Thursday, 8 March 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

I hope to turn up about 6-6:30. This will be my first London FAP! I did attend a very small FAP at ATP a few months ago, but that was just me, Andrew Farrell, Aldo and G-Kit, so I'm not even sure it counts.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

I look forward to talking to you about punk rock goodness, Colonel!

Dr.C, Thursday, 8 March 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

See everyone tomorrow! :-)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 March 2007 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

Bump. I am looking forward to this.

Matt DC, Friday, 9 March 2007 09:09 (eighteen years ago)

I'll probably be there 7.30ish.

Mark C, Friday, 9 March 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)

My right ear is all bunged up, so if I turn up, please talk in my left ear

Tom D., Friday, 9 March 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

Bring an old fashioned ear horn for maximum effect.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:08 (eighteen years ago)

I only wish I had one

Tom D., Friday, 9 March 2007 11:09 (eighteen years ago)

There have to be enough comedy Dickensian old men around here for you to find one. Initiative, son.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

I look forward to being as offensive as possible while standing on your right hand side, then.

Matt DC, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

comedy Dickensian old men

As I said, I plan to be there.

Dr.C, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:16 (eighteen years ago)

I look forward to being as offensive as possible while standing on your right hand side, then.

So what's new?

Tom D., Friday, 9 March 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

"Dr. Codswanger entered the room, having just finished abusing an orphan for breathing too loudly."

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:19 (eighteen years ago)

HI DERE, me (+1) should be there from 8ish... depending on trains (and me getting some sleep this afternoon)

tissp, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

"You coxcomb, Raggett! You mountebank! Your impertinence shall be broadcast through all London town!"

Dr.C, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Raggett? Sounds pretty Dickens to me...

Tom D., Friday, 9 March 2007 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

A disreputable sort, that's me.

Anyway, clearly Dr. C and I need to end up on http://www.ilxor.com:8080/ILX/ThreadSelectedControllerServlet?boardid=40&threadid=37229!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:30 (eighteen years ago)

The code, she is weird. (That's the link to Fight Club 1910)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:31 (eighteen years ago)

Fie 'pon thee coarse varlet, I'll knock ye down!

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 9 March 2007 11:37 (eighteen years ago)

Hey folks – I am heading off now to do various things in town – I might be a bit later than planned owing to something that’s come up that I have to do first. It’s probable that my sister and Mrs. Dr. C will turn up for a bit fairly early on. They are doing something nearby later and were going to pop in first. Now I think they’ll get there before me and it will be difficult for me to get in touch with them about my progress, as I’ve gone and mislaid my phone – gah! I’m sure they’ll be quite happy on their own, but in case they look as if they’re looking for me, don’t hesitate to go over and say hi.

My sister has v. long straight dark hair and is tall. Mrs Dr. C is also tall and has long blonde-slightly reddish hair. My sister is called Mia. They know about the internet people!. Oh, and they possibly might be with a shortish tough-looking bloke with v.short buzzcut hair who always wears a Harrington jacket. He’s called John. Hope to be there by 7, maybe before.

See you later. Beer awaits

Dr.C, Friday, 9 March 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

Coool. I'm aiming for 7, too.

G00blar, Friday, 9 March 2007 12:42 (eighteen years ago)

Heading to Manchester in about an hour, so 'fraid I won't see you all tonight. Boo.

JimD, Friday, 9 March 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

They know about the internet people!

Oh dear oh dear oh dear...

PJ Miller, Friday, 9 March 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

I will be a little later than planned.

Ed, Friday, 9 March 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)

This thread has really gone off the boil. I am still at work, and totally knackered. I need to sit down and work out thwether this means it would be a good or a bad idea to attempt to attend the NEDFAP.

Also, one of the little screws on my glasses has come loose.

PJ Miller, Friday, 9 March 2007 17:48 (eighteen years ago)

It is a good idea. I have confirmation there'll be several people not on this thread who will be present at NEFAP07.

Matt DC, Friday, 9 March 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

The code, she is weird. (That's the link to Fight Club 1910)

You put the stuff the wrong way around!

Keith, Friday, 9 March 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

Hi Peter, stick them together with a plaster.

Keith, Friday, 9 March 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

Oh no, I'm worried by the presence of Mysterious Unidentified People. Maybe I shouldn't go after all.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 9 March 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

Mysterious unidentified people = FTMOB, have no fear.

Ed, Friday, 9 March 2007 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

no, come! i can leave work earlier, as it happens...

emsk, Friday, 9 March 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

Oh it was great. Thanks EVERYONE for showing up. :-) More tomorrow!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 10 March 2007 01:03 (eighteen years ago)

That was fun, hope it was still so after I left.

Ed, Monday, 12 March 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

Top notch entertainment--apologies for me being a bit spaced out for the first half an hour... I was still absolutely knackered from being away.

tissp, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

I had a really good time. People I met for the first time (non-Ned division): Colonel Poo, Dr C, Abby, Dave Q, The Pinefox, probably others? Anyway, 'twas great to meet all of you!

G00blar, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, that was fun. I kept saying NO I HAVE TO LEAVE I HAVE TO GET THE LAST TRAIN but then Ned or TISSP! or someone would prevent me from going. Nice to meet Col. Poo for the first time, too!

Masonic Boom, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

What a terrific evening! I will attempt to list everyone who was there, but will no doubt have missed some people out so pls accept my apologies for incompleteness. Anyway : Ned, Hina, JerryThe Nipper, The Pinefox, Dave Q (!!!!), Tom E, Kate, Pete, Emsk, Ed, Gooblar, Gooblar's guitarist, Vicky, Matt DC, Colonel Poo, Marcello, Tom D, Mark S, PJ Miller, The Lex, Carsmile, Mark C, SGS, Suzy, TISSP + Mrs. TISSP (I think), Toby, Collette, Tim Hopkins, a lovely author whose name I have forgotten because I am crap. Er that's all I can remember, but a vintage turnout for sure! I am sorry that my guests didn't make it owing to chronic lateness (see 'the things that drive you the most nuts about yr other half thread'). They have been soundly beaten for their tardiness, although in mitigation there is some suggestion that I may have said The Calthorpe, in which case I deserve to be soundly beaten too.

Great to meet Ned at last - the hair was as wonderful IRL as it is by reputation. A real surprise to see Dave Q – if you’re reading this DQ, I think there’s more mileage in the REO Speedwagon debate, but I am certain that southern rock influences (e.g. Lynyrd Skynrd) have no place in true poodle-pomp. Colenel Poo – what a great man! Good to see that the spirit of Oi! is alive and well somewhere in ILE. I hope I didn’t bore you with tales of how ‘Sounds’ was better than the NME. Marcello - I hope you’re recovered from your nasty sounding fluey cough, but it was great to see you albeit briefly. It was great to finally meet fellow Watercooler-dweller Gooblar and the Gooblar band guitar-meister (Jim?) – I think we all agree that we love Telecasters, yes? Kate – thanks for all your chat and advice – you said some wise things that were really appreciated. It was also fantastic to finally meet Krautrockin’ Tom D properly.

I attempted to circulate around the pub to chat to everyone but probably didn’t quite make it to everyone. By the time I got down to the Pete B, PJM, Carsmile table I was fairly steaming IIRC, so I hope that I wasn’t too silly. (Mind you, I wouldn’t have wanted The Lex’s hangover on Saturday! Goodness!). I believe that I may have been fairly liberal with the use of Beryl-like terms of endearment such as darlin’ and sweetie all night – I was just pissed trying to assuage the obvious disappointment that Miss Beryl herself couldn’t be there. Hope we can do it all again soon.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:32 (eighteen years ago)

Aye, it was heartening to see Dr C in such fine fettle. Cough markedly improved over weekend so saving the voice for Easter.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:40 (eighteen years ago)

I had such a nice time I fell asleep on the train and woke up in Twyford. It is quite expensive to get back when the last train has gone.

PJ Miller, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:45 (eighteen years ago)

Depends where you're getting back to. If Acton, then yes, huuuge pain.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:48 (eighteen years ago)

PJM - what's your accent? I kept meaning to ask, but my brain-voice connection had been severed by that time, I think.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 10:49 (eighteen years ago)

Dr C, lovely author = Abby, I think?

This was awesome, proper big FAP like what we used to have in the old days. In retrospect the Harrison was probably not the best venue (not enough tables + too narrow + too smokey for pregnant ILXers) but once it cleared out a bit it was great. Great to see various people I haven't seen in a long time, as well.

I'm disappointed that I didn't get to circulate the planned lie that Mrs Dr. C was actually Beryl.

Matt DC, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:13 (eighteen years ago)

Don't worry, Doc, I had had about fifteen pints before I even got there.

I am from NW Leicestershire, right on the Derbyshire border.

I am off to Spain now, innit.

PJ Miller, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:16 (eighteen years ago)

Also a bit too smokey for ILxors with bad fluey coughs, and the FERAL YOUTHS lurking around in abundance outside the hostelry were a little off-putting. But a good FAP nonetheless.

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:18 (eighteen years ago)

i don't remember getting home. i don't remember who was there apart from dave q. i don't remember anything about anything. was it abby or sophie i just missed? i was meant to go to tomas andersson @ the key afterwards, woke up on saturday to a dozen missed calls and "where are u" texts...

lex pretend, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

Lex you were very enthused by the great lost Who album Who Can Swing with Bell Biv Devoe.

Groke, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:24 (eighteen years ago)

Lex you wouldn't have made it home at all had it not been for the kindness of various Ilxers who pretty much dragged you home.

Also you sat on my lap and wouldn't get off, until you ran away with my pint. I was not amused.

Matt DC, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

(Actually Tom it was Who Can Dance as produced by Jazzy B. Who Can Swing was the 1993 follow-up)

Matt DC, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

I just remember looking up at some point to see The Lex being manhandled off by one of the staff - though whether he was actually being ejected, or just dragged to the loo, I'm not entirely sure.

Masonic Boom, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:26 (eighteen years ago)

oh dear! who took me home?!

i think i was already quite drunk by the time i got to the pub...

lex pretend, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

Lex that's the understatement of the century so far.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

And it was Abby you missed. I told you her name, you said something like "Crabby?" and I thought, "This will be an interesting evening."

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:36 (eighteen years ago)

all i remember is that on the bus home, i physically couldn't put my headphones in, which i was sad about

lex pretend, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:40 (eighteen years ago)

sorry i missed you this time Ned. will make it to California some day...

blueski, Monday, 12 March 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

I sat next to you for about 20 mins, Lex. You seemed to be unconscious, so I deemed it safe to talk loudly about ROCK.

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

but it would've been funny if his unconscious body began drifting away from you as you did.

blueski, Monday, 12 March 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

The fact that Dave Q and the Lex were in deep discussions most of the evening still tickles me.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 March 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

ah yes, lovely author = Abby

PJM - NW Leicestershire sounds suspiciously like Coalville or thereabouts? I once had lunch in Coalville. Or was it Lutterworth?

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

i'm sad i missed this, Ned, but it sounds like people somehow managed to have fun anyway!

Tracer Hand, Monday, 12 March 2007 13:14 (eighteen years ago)

HI DERE. I had a great time! Thanks everyone. Good to finally meet people.

Colonel Poo, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

I remembered that Robster was also there - should add him to the rollcall. Sorry Robster!

Dr.C, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

i'm sad i missed this, Ned, but it sounds like people somehow managed to have fun anyway!

Somehow we survived without you, oh yes. (This meant I wasn't able to pass on the word from Allyzay to you that she'd see you in hell.)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 12 March 2007 14:38 (eighteen years ago)

pete attempted to pass this comment on on saturday, but thought it was something about meeting on a hill...

CarsmileSteve, Monday, 12 March 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)
