The person I am dating is cash poor, and it makes his/her life very difficult. I can help him/her out with very easily, until they deal with their current situation. But of course s/he refuse to accept anything from me. Is there a way to give freely without facing the old Cyndi Lauper saw that "money changes everything"?

Employ someone to steal from you without your knowledge then covertly
give it to them.

I'm sort of on the other side of it but not really - I've got basics
like food and shelter taken care of but it's rare for me to be able
to go anywhere requiring admission payments or anything like that
above like $2 (which really limits dating). I guess the best thing to
do would be to offer loans instead of trying to give freely so the
other person can feel that even though they owe you, they (yes my
pronoun usage is TERRIBLE, forgive me) will be able to pay the debt
in a material way and not have all kinds of emotional complications
instead.

Hi Anon,
Maybe he/she doesen't want to feel beholden to you. Maybe they can
make it on their own?

"Money Changes Everything was written by Tom Gray in the
seventies and originally performed by "The Brains".
"In a show called the "Hot Ones" in 1984, Cyndi said about this
song: "The Brains wrote the Song, and the Brains were a great
band, that was around the same time Blue Angel was." Then
she said that she was inspired to record the song because it so
perfectly represented the tragic events surronding Blue Angel:
the frivolous law suit filed against them by their ex-manager, the
bankruptcy, the Polydor experience and all that bad business
that ultimately conspired to split Blue Angel up.
She said everybody was always asking her what happened to
Blue Angel, she said her recording of Money Changes everything
was inspired by that.
She also said when she was with Blue Angel she thought the
Brains were really great, and that they were going to make it big!
So when neither Blue Angel or the Brains did make it big, it was
even more of an inspiration to record the song.
"The video was filmed in Houston on October 10th 1984.
"In the video, there is a part where a fan runs onto the stage to
hug Cyndi. Several questions happened about this. This WAS
staged. It took several shots of Cyn getting up in the garbage can
to pull the whole thing off... at least two or three attempts... and
each time the "girl" was brought onstage... (info from Greg
Houston). This girl was rumored to be Susannah Hoffs, of the
Bangles who opened for Cyn that night. In fact it was Marta
Marrera. She was from Kids Inc. She later became the singer
named Martika and had that one hit wonder: Toy Soldiers.
"Cyndi recorded it in an unfinished room at the recording studio,
almost like a basement. She recorded it alone in the room.

This is not just superfluous trivia, this is THE ANSWER to your
question. Think about Martika: when she ran on stage, did she
have any idea that one day she would be a star, filming her own
video, with fans running on stage to hug HER? No, she did not.
Like Cyndi, you should encourage your friend (Martika) to 'run on
stage' and take your money, not allowing him or her to think
about the day when they will be on stage, handing out their own
largesse. Perhaps you could encourage your friend to 'act more
like Martika.'
It doesn't help to dwell on what happened to 'The Brains' when
pondering this analogy. Remember - no Brains, your gain.
