Are they any good now? I am hugely tempted by their unlimited data plan but have heard as many people whinging about coverage as saying it's great. There is a mast right near my house so not too worried about reception at home, but don't like the idea of going to a smaller town for the weekend and being out of reception for ages. I have been on Vodafone basically since I first got a phone and am slightly torn about leaving them (on one side - EVIL tax evaders, on the other, no problems whatsoever with their service in 7 years). Happily for my conscience, EVIL is winning at the moment. Also people with HTC/Android phones, if I have data capped at, say, 1gig will I be scrabbling around by the end of the month? I can take or leave Youtube and have wi-fi at home in the office, will probably use Spotify mobile a lot but obviously that can be synched over wi-fi.

Dunno anything about 3, I've been with T-Mobile for years now, but I've had an android for a couple of months now and 1GB a month is plenty for me. I do have auto-sync turned off but that's for battery life rather than cutting down on data usage.

I'm happy enough with my 3 service at the moment but I don't leave London very often. My experience is that it's not great out in the country, in that I was only just able to keep up with the cricket at the weekend. No way could I have streamed from Spotify out there - but then I don't know if I'd expect any network to manage that - but it's surprisingly good for exactly that in town. I have the unlimited data plan now but have been on 1GB for most of the year and have never ran out as I tend to use wifi for all major internetting.

I joined them a couple of months back. All fine except in my office, frustratingly - I get a weak signal that keeps dropping out at random. Don't think this is 3's fault though - it's a really old cavernous building and everyone except the official telecom supplier (who put in their own mast, but offer a terrible deal) suffers the same.
The unlimited deal I'm pretty sure I don't need - don't speak for long and ILX isn't heavy on the data - but it feels good to know I'll be paying £35 a month or whatever and that's it. I think it was still the absolute cheapest deal around at the time anyway. (though O2 did offer a slightly cheaper deal but not first time I spoke to them, only after I'd already moved and asked for my pac code. Idiots.)

Cheapest deal for what? That's pretty expensive, unless you wanted an iPhone or something.

They're currently offering £30 a month for a Desire, which looks pretty good. Tempted to just go for it given I am very rarely out of London (and won't be going heavy on the data on those occasions). I understand their customer service is shite but they have a shop right near my office so that shouldn't be much of an issue.

Is that a Desire or a Desire S?
― Operation Pooting (Colonel Poo), Tuesday, 2 August 2011 10:52 (fourteen years ago)
Desire S or Z I believe.

It is for an iPhone, yes. Seemed alright to me and the unlimited thing was attractive.
(I'm forever haunted by the terrible work deal I mentioned and once had, where the costs ratched up insanely once you crossed some tiny threshold. I ended up paying a couple of hundred to extricate myself early and it was still cheaper than sticking with it. Why they bothered negotiating something so stupid I have no idea)

I know this is the 3 thread but you can get a Desire S with unlimited internet for £25 a month on T-Mobile. Just saying.

Yeah I basically do not trust T-Mobile not suddenly implement a cap, which they did a year or so ago.
