I only saw the second half* and now I want to read a BOOK ABOUT IT!! The Big Bang was caused when two rippling membranes in the 11th dimension called BRANES banged into one another!! It's like string theory only bettah!! I didn't understand a word!!

I wuv it when TV makes me ph333l dumm!

You should try watching Johhny Vaughan tonight then. I don't understand a word of him either.

Billy Dods, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

damn! I missed that show :(

If you really wanna read about it. The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene is where it's at.

Alan pea-brane, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

does it talk about p-branes? those physicists are so witty.

hamish, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

here in this parallel dimension it says they did

mark s, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey does "p" stand for parallel (i miseed the first half): cuz if it does then THAT LINK goes through to a parallel membrane = a p- brane = threads are p-branes!!

I call this UBERTHREAD THEORY (also: writing parallel fast several times produces some interesting para-words)

mark s, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I missed all this, I woz out watching The Worst Band In The World. In a parallel universe the audience DIDN'T walk out...

DG, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

hey does "p" stand for parallel

i haven't seen the TV programme so i could be wrong, but i don't think the p stands for anything (other than a lame joke to make it sound like pea brain). p is often used for counting dimensions because you've used n (short for number) for something else and o would look like 0.

hamish, Thursday, 14 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I was wondering if the explanation for why the threads got so bizarre (allegedly) this week is coz we leaked into a parallel universe. Adventures of ILE in the 11th Dimension!

thread theory.

richard john gillanders, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

where am I?

richard john gillanders, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I missed it! We were watching Buffy videos! I thought that the end of the Season 2 box set was going to be ur, for ph34r of spoilers, when 'something happens to a vamp' and he kicks up mean shit (vague enough?) but CHIZ CHIZ it was TED! I want Jenny to DIE, for fcuks sake.

Will they repeat this though? I admit watching this programme with RickyT may have killed me as he nods along knowledgably about nth dimensions. A phrase used by him last night was "look, physics is my bitch, believe me" BUT I STILL AM CONVINCED I AM SEEING TIME ITSELF AND WHAT DIMENSION AM I IN ANYWAY?!?! (nb I may have substituted some of my own words in his sentence ie BITCA instead of thing)

Sarah, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

where are you rjg?: you are in MY DIMENSION making MY JOKES!!

mark s, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Where is the 11th dimension and can we eat it?

Alan Trewartha, Friday, 15 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I did not say physics is my bitch. But I wish I had.

It's all very straightforward:

finally, someone's laid it all out for me!

Don't try it at home though, those squashed black holes sound pretty painful. http://arxiv.org/abs/0807.4338
