"Invite others who are cool, leave the dweebs at home please."

This was at the end of an evite I recently got. Although I like the people throwing the party, the premise of this statement makes me want to throw up--the whole us/them thing, the assumption that "we" all like the same kind of people or that desirability as a person is an objective thing. It smacks of hivemind. Discuss.

The thought of having cool people at a party of mine makes me feel sick.

i think it sort of depends on exactly what they meant by 'dweebs'. people have said similar things to me before, but only because they didn't want some ninnies ruining a perfectly good coke party-- like this girl who would otherwise be invited, but gets teary and paranoid when people are acting like vacuum-cleaners all around her. that is, they only wanted 'cool' people there, and by 'cool' they meant people who wanted to hoover or are okay with people hoovering. yknow?

if by dweebs they meant me, then they can go fuck themselfs.

I was wondering why I hadn't gotten my invitation yet.

i've thought this, or at least meant it, even when i haven't said it explicitly...table otm. it's not so much about cool/uncool as people who will enhance and enjoy the party/people who will not.

oh geez i have done this, not explicitly in sending invitations but in planning with my roommates and saying "but let's not invite the whole christian fellowship this time...let's try for a more lively atmosphere...." and i do like the christians, in most social contexts, but when 2/3 of them are morally opposed to alcohol, those ones are not going to be my drinking buddies.

i see the assholish exclusion you are pointing out. but different people fit in at different types of parties. maybe it's more socially acceptable to say "invite others who might like the party, which will involve alcohol/coke/loud music/prostitutes."
