chris rock makes "chloe in the afternoon," but BETTER

um...

Chris Rock has long been fascinated by the angst surrounding the hot-button topics of marriage, fidelity, and the battle of the sexes--and has made it prime territory for his unique brand of comedy. So when he recently encountered a film considered a true classic on the subject of married life's frustrations and temptations--Eric Rohmer's internationally acclaimed "Chloe in the Afternoon"--he was struck with a typically irreverent thought: why not transform this serious French story of human foibles and moral dilemmas into a far edgier American comedy?

"I like to find things that aren't that funny and then make them funny," comments Rock.

Stephen A. Smith is in this, I can't not see it!

m bison, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 06:32 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, he's in the Rohmer film, too.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 07:44 (eighteen years ago)

baaderonixx, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

I hope there's a whole "down low" subplot

Ben Boyerrr, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

Chloe In The Afternoon is funny.

C. Grisso/McCain, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

WAHT

gabbneb, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

Rock funny vs Rohmer funny...

This'll probably be "funny" like that great buddy film he made with Anthony Hopkins.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

"I like to find things that aren't that funny and then make them funny," comments Rock.

Hence his appearance in Dogma.

nickalicious, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

Hence he's gonna remake Adam Sandler movies

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 17:49 (eighteen years ago)

"I like to find things that aren't that funny and then make them funny," comments Rock.

and what, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

"I like to be confused with that guy who was that diva in the Fifth Element," says Rock. And Abbott.

Abbott, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

i saw a commercial for this last night, it's called "i think i love my wife", and it looked kind of funny

akm, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 20:47 (eighteen years ago)

let me guess, Chris Rock does some yelling

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, pretty serious haterade in this thread! One thing I've always liked about Rock, and probably a big part of why he never really became a big movie star, is that he seems to like doing romantic comedies and more old-fashioned material (see also: that Heaven Can Wait remake a few years ago) that probably don't appeal that much to fans of his HBO specials. I haven't seen the movie his new one is based on, but it looks like it could be good, I wanna see it.

Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

well, have you seen the kinda star vehicles Richard Pryor made in Hollywood from 1975-90? Pure tapioca, with a few exceptions.

But in a Borat/South Park culture, what's keeping Rock from making a scabrous, balls-out comedy film about racial... Oh. Nah. Fergit it.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:30 (eighteen years ago)

I heard Borat's remaking Andrei Rublev

Edward III, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

Pure tapioca, with a few exceptions.

yeah his film resume is really sad. Blue Collar is great tho!

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

well, Pryor's in an ensemble in that one.

I think this will be a remake of Rohmer in the way that Clueless was an adap of Jane Austen.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

but Richard Pryor seemed to let go of his comic faculties and probably actually listened to his directors, such as they were. I like that Rock plugs the quality gaps by just being 'Chris Rock', right down to recycling large chunks of his album material. I'll always watch that.

tremendoid, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:40 (eighteen years ago)

I think this will be a remake of Rohmer in the way that Clueless was an adap of Jane Austen.
well it might be ok then

James Redd and the Blecchs, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:41 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, Clueless is the best extant film adaptation of Austen.

horseshoe, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

everybody hates chris is a great show btw

and what, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

you just wasted $1.19 making that post

Edward III, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

[Silver Streak, Car Wash, Blue Collar[/i] are all considerably better than anything that Chris Rock has made.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:49 (eighteen years ago)

definitely

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

Plus he was in The Muppet Movie!

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:50 (eighteen years ago)

well Pryor wasn't THE STAR in any of those, but never having seen a CR vehicle I won't dispute. (I did think he had one of the 2 funny lines in Dogma.)

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

Oh wait and Stir Crazy! After that it's hard to defend anything Pryor did. The Toy is one of the half-dozen worst movies ever made.

Alex in SF, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:51 (eighteen years ago)

Chris Rock's best cinematic moment is his "are you saying God's missing a piece of his soul?" bit in Nurse Betty.

The one where he was reincarnated as a white guy was HORRIBLE

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

isn't Pryor in Wild in the Streets too...?

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:54 (eighteen years ago)

I love chris but he's gonna hafta live a long long time to beat blue collar

Edward III, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:56 (eighteen years ago)

oh shit and he's in the Mack totally forgot.

okay so no great starring roles, but I'm willing to venture that Pryor's resume shits all over Chris Rock's, given this thread's refresher course in his film work.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

yes Shakey, he's the drummer "Stanley X"

Pryor seemed to let go of his comic faculties and probably actually listened to his directors

I doubt he was focused on listening to anyone in his condition by Stir Crazy.

Dr Morbius, Wednesday, 7 March 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

Pryor was in Lost Highway!

let me guess, Chris Rock does some yelling

Shakey Mo Collier

actually no, I didn't even recognize him at first.

akm, Thursday, 8 March 2007 00:08 (eighteen years ago)

He does some semiguilty ogling.

Abbott, Thursday, 8 March 2007 00:59 (eighteen years ago)
