i.e. what job can you do that involves the least amount of stress, work and responsibility for the amount that it pays?

if you don't consider polygraphs and background investigations into your life stressful, I'd say being an IT monkey for the federal government is pretty near the top. that should be changing over the next few years, though.

A titular government post in a dictatorship. But it carries the downside of possibly being purged once Glorious Leader goes wacko and paranoid.

The two I thought of at first were CEO of a well-run company and WAG-style celebrity. The thing is one does have a lot of responsibilty and stress and the other has all the stress from paparazzi etc.

my job in the distant future will carry a lot of responsibility, but it'll pay well and i'll only have to work 15 days a month!

Plumber: ~£50k + tax fraud for a self employed cowboy to fix leaky pipes. 24 hour call out is a bit shit but at ~£90 an hour you wouldn't mind going out at 2am.

The ratio in my job is pretty good: web developer at a public university. There's really nothing life or death about the work we do so the stress isn't too bad. But knowing I'm doing work that does more than line some dude's pockets is rewarding. Uni atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Pay is better than most non-profits, good benefits etc.

I've also worked at a handful of dot com startups and private companys as well as public schools. this job pays near the top of all those other jobs and doesn't come with a fraction of the stress, lack of security or meaningless that some of them did.
