Many people think that the World Wrestling Federation had to change its name because of legal action on behalf of the World Wildlife Fund. But do they know the actual truth behind the proceedings?
After endless court settlements it was eventually agreed that the only way the two organisations could come to a conclusion was for both parties to nominate a single entity to negotiate proceedings.
The World Wrestling Foundation got wrestling hulk Big Show to represent them while the World Wildlife Foundation plumped for a South Western Chinese Giant Panda as featured on their logo. The proceedings would involve both parties locked in mortal combat and the winner got to keep their name.
Despite a good fight from Big Show the panda surprisingly won out.
And that's the God's honest truth about why WWF had to change its name.
