Has anyone been to Shizuoka?

Because all I hear when I ask my friends what I should do there is "it's near Mt Fuji and.........there are alot of hot springs, I think."
I'm glad to be spending a week in the 'country,' but I can hardly find any info on the area.

There are some nice spots in Shizuoka. Izu Peninsula is pretty, and there are a lot of interesting coastal towns and onsens. Shimoda has some historical value. Atami is really touristy, but it's a famous weekend destination for Tokyites.

Shizuoka

Why are you going there?

Family ofa friend's letting me stay there in exchange for tutoring their grandkids.
A week free in japan? Win.

Shizuoka city is alright, but a little small. Strawberries are in season now, but you may have to make a reservation in advance if you want to go pick some.

Not completely related but have supercub or j-rock ever been to Okayama?

i have a 1-2 week stint there next month, i've only been 2x on day trips from Osaka. I think I'll be pretty well looked after but if you guys have any personal tips I'm all ears.

Sorry man, never been out to Okayama. It's been on my "to do" list for years. Please report back with details.

I've been to Okayama. Kurashiki is a great place to visit. It's the home of bizen pottery and has one of the best preserved historic districts in Japan. It's lovely. There's a nice art museum and lots of other sightseeing spots. It's well worth a visit.

Okayama city has a very famous garden that is apparently very nice (though I've never been there myself).

That reminds me: I need to get the first two DVDs for the new Tenchi Muyo series. Not because I really really wanna see it(the original staff are partly gone) but because there's a special feature on DVD two that gives the locations in Okayama which most of the locales in the series are based upon.
