ok with some money ok, but ...what do you need to buy a place in berlin? what is the down payment %? how does it work? or what are the steps...I would try to buy a non-renovated spot...and fix it up. aka curious and daydreaming!

faustina first check exberliner.com. i know i've seen ads in there for lawyers and property types who will help you (for a fee, of course) purchase a property. when i get home i'll look as well.

We half-heatedly looked into it a couple of years ago and it seems rather expensive in terms of fees, and needing a much bigger deposit (although property is a lot cheaper there than UK)

Why not just rent though? Everyone does it over there and prices are very competitive. Home ownership is just not something people do, and even if they do it's not until they're in their 40s or 50s.

renting is throwing away monies, no? I am the people's I do not have it, but was wondering if I did what I would do with it and berlin is the place for me, i really want to look into it. I hate shopping.

No. Quite often renting and saving up money you would otherwise be spending on interest is cheaper in both the short and long term.

I also have a feeling you need at least a 30% deposit in Berlin, and somewhere in the region of 12% fees on top of the pruchase prices for legal stuff, stamp duty, estate agents fees etc.

I met a few people who did not have anything bought stuff in ny with that, and 10 years later posted some bars on orchard, went down the drain on coca cola too tho...disgusting. anyway the question remains what does it take, 30% is longer ways than learnin' the wherabouts of consonant-world.

"guten tag. ich mochte ein ... einen? ... er, can't remember the word for 'apartment' either ... kaufen, bitte." that should work wonders.
