van der Graaf generator.

you know, big fuck off metal mushroom in every science classroom ever. It makes kids hair stand on end when they put their hands on it. But does it have a proper use apart from making teenagers resemble Fido Dido?

Rock band names have a use - by helping to distinguish one band from another, esp when they are both crap.

What deserves to be called work? What deserves not to be called work?

Remember that poem by Shel Silverstein?

I'd rather play pool
than go to school.

I'd rather play tennis
than go to the dentist.

I'd rather play hurk
than go to work.

Hurk? What's hurk?

I don't know, but it's gotta be better than work.

The machine is a Van de Graaff Generator
The band is Van der Graaf Generator

Any similarity is purely coincidental.
