how was your weekend?

saturday- finished working for a major supermarket chain after four years. went out, got so drunk i can't quite believe it.

sunday- woken by father at ten am to clean vomit from door of house, and side of mercedes.
take a long road journey to hear my brother's vocal society perform haydyn and beethoven
stop on the way to puke in a filling station, and to see spurs concede to late goals against chelsea.
concert lovely, back home. ten minutes from house older brother rings to say he has done this to my first car.
take my new (bought early saturday, sorry) car for a spin and narrowly avoid freaking yob in middle of the road aiming kicks at passing cars. call cops to get him picked up, and go home.

monday- start new job working for local authority-walked, left car at home cos insurance doesn't kick in til afternoon. still hungover but feeling ok. get on well, job looks to be a real cushy number. get home to find the roof and door of my car keyed to the tune of about five hundred quid, presumably by the spacing yob from last night (he would have seen me pull out of my estate). this was an hour ago, i am only now breathing again.

how was your weekend ilx?

darraghmac, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 00:54 (eighteen years ago)

oh yeah, and dad got a speeding ticket on his way to pick up my brother who had crashed.

he probably didn't have a great sunday either, given his close proximity to me for five hours in the car.

darraghmac, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

I had a really good birthday party on Saturday night (my bday isnt til tomorrow tho)

Then, !!! had the good manners to tour Aus, so I got to see them last night, which blew me away, they were AWESOME.

Also, I have along weekend and 2 extra days off work. So my weekend has been pretty damn good.

Trayce, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 00:56 (eighteen years ago)

happy birthday! i feel a little better now.

darraghmac, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

Darraghmac, I hoped you brushed your teeth about a thousand times after all that puking! Sheesh!
I did not puke. Not once, the whole weekend.

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 02:13 (eighteen years ago)

Saturday I got on a plane, then another plane.

Sunday I got on a plane.

Yup.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

Ned was on three planes nestled inside one another!

Abbott, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 02:17 (eighteen years ago)

Dear Louis Jagger,

Please don't answer this thread.

Love, the ILX diaspora.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 02:19 (eighteen years ago)

Saturday I sat around, did much of nothing, enjoyed the warm weather on the deck.
Yesterday I sat around, didn't do much aside from repotting about 200 hen-and-chicks, made butternut squash soup, watched a couple of V. Mars episodes, enjoyed the warm weather on the deck.
Today I went to Sam's for mass quantities, then did much of nothing, grilled hamburgers and shrimp on the deck, passed out for a nice nap on the porch swing, went in and watched "24".
I'm having a nice long weekend.

It was like those Russian dolls.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 02:36 (eighteen years ago)

What is LJ's user name these days anyway? (not to derail thread)

Abbott, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 02:37 (eighteen years ago)

unfished business or something similar.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 02:39 (eighteen years ago)

Abbott: go read the "crushes" thread.

weekend was good! have a slight headache now, but maybe dinner will help. i just finished up a robeks "awesome acai" after doing a perfunctory workout with my gym buddy (who's hung over). slept until 12:30 this afternoon. about to cook up some shrimp with some fresh thyme, garlic, olive oil, a little tomato sauce.

sunday night: moules-frites and martinis at luna park, mountain goats @ el rey. i've seen john so many times now and but i don't believe i've ever seen him "rock" the songs up as much as he did last night. also, the opening band was amazing and i'm curious to find out what their deal is and if they've released anything.

saturday: zodiac, girly shopping spree, tacos (cochinita pibil and a corn/zucchini succotash) at loteria, sugar-free (but decidedly not fat-free) butter pecan ice cream at once of the ice-cream stands in the farmer's market.

I LOVE Pony Up!

ENBB, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 03:36 (eighteen years ago)

they make me nostalgic for that couple of minutes in rock when girls were allowed to be mean to boys.

get bent, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 03:57 (eighteen years ago)

oh man. yeah, i puked this wkend... but only once. it had been a long time, had a good streak going there. was under the influence of wedding reception, albertans, clear-headed gin drunk that swiftly deteriorated into rowdy cheap-beer drunk... the wedding and reception was fun, got to be an usher (girl usher ooh), candid photographer, witness love, hang with friends, eat fooods, dance, chatty car ride on the way there, chatty car ride on way back sunday, in which i was not chatty due to my incredible suffering, but did get to laugh at friend's (respectful, accurate) julia child impressions. did manage to eat a chocolate doughnut (timmy ho's all up in the ontario hwy fastfood action) and feel "better". made it home. hangover effects lasted until today, 5pm.

(i live in the same town as pony up but have only seen them play once, a few years ago. should prob give them another chance. but you know how i feel about indie pop these days... maybe springtime will change that (again)?)

rrrobyn, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 04:28 (eighteen years ago)

if not springtime, then when? it's indiepop! flowers and sunshine and candy and cuddlesquee mountain!

get bent, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 04:36 (eighteen years ago)

sat: worked.
sun: worked

i also knitted and watched 24? simultaneously. finished 'representative men of japan' and started on ron jeremy's biography, entitled 'hardest (working) man in showbusiness' (or something along those lines). funny read.

nathalie, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 05:38 (eighteen years ago)

I spent most of Sunday night retrieving my non-outdoor kitties from the great outdoors.Fucking escape artists.
a tail is now a rope to pull certain creatures....I will leave it at that.

We had friends over for lunch on Sunday and their five year old child used Mister Monkey's Christmas dalek to melt my legs and leave me lying in the middle of the living room, grabbing at him widly to exact my deadly revenge. So he ran into the kitchen and wouldn't let us out of the living room. When I called through the door, "it's ok! My legs are all better! I'm not going to grab you now! It's safe to open the door!" he shouted back "NO WAY!" He was right too. My legs weren't better, and I would have grabbed him.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 08:16 (eighteen years ago)

Saturday: forty covers on lunch then 170 in the evening. Small burn on hand

Sunday: three hundred all day. No injuries.

Matt, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 08:21 (eighteen years ago)

Mostly listening to Neon Bible and working out things to write about it.

Friday, NEDFAP but left early as I had to go camping. Left NEDFAP Merry, had some cans on the train, and maintained the merry for my arrival. In ebullient mood and with some friends I hadn't seen in ages got serious with Gin, Port and Ale before finding the bottle of Rye I'd lost at the previous weekend. Stumbled into the tent with two others to form a comatose heap until tea round.

Which looked like this:

Stumbled through the work in the morning (brainless heavy lift, wrapping and packing) still a bit drunk. Working with a dear old friend I hadn't seen in a while and having a really good catchup. Worked the rest of the day and took a nap when it was over. Felt better and had a good evening drinking and singing and listening to some really good singing. Slightly earlier night.

Woke up packed up, I had to leave early. Went into the office to prep a few things for this week (I have to make a whistle stop to belgium). That finished up way quicker than I had imagined so I joined the rolling walkers for the remainder of the new river, lovely walking in the sunshine. Then after that finished I got a call from a friend who was drinking in the flask so I scooted over there for a swift one, which was genuinely just one and went home to fall into blissful sleep.

Ed, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 08:39 (eighteen years ago)

All in all pretty good, and a nice continuation of a couple of great weeks.

Ed, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

Good date with the guy I was talking about on the awesome crush thread before er, that incident-that-shall-not-be-talked-about-what-ruined-said-crush-thread. Anyway, the point is, I had a good first date and a second one this coming weekend. :)

Friday - worked for a bit, picked up hire van (Merc Sprinter, ifyerintrested), loaded now-ex-flatmate's belongings into van (he was supposed to move last weekend, but didn't, and then thursday night he was cycling home drunk and crashed into a kerb, and probably broken his arm. No lifting for him. I am fuming), drove now-ex-flatmate and belongings to east london which took far longer than I expected, unloaded his belongings, met girlfriend/new-flatmate, drove to the riot-Ikea, ate hot-dog, kept the free-drink-refill cup, did grand tour of Ikea collecting table, chairs, cushions for chairs, all the usual Ikea stuff you pick up 'cos it's only like 79p or something, yet somehow all adds up to £160, loads of pear cider and herring, got extra free drink with my old cup, drove to my our house, unloaded Ikea bounty, drove to South London, watched amusing TOTP2-style program about New York Rock or somesuch, apparently Lou Reed used to be in the Velvet Underground. Slept.
Saturday - packed (most of) girlfriend's belongings into van. Drove to our house. Moved belongings into flat. Discovered I have new neighbour moving in at the same time, without having any idea that the old neighbours (and their kittens) were moving out. Watched Crufts, followed by Best In Show (it's funny because it's true, mainly). Ate curry. Fell asleep.
Sunday - removed final traces of ex-flatmate, then deposited them at his new place, drove to Walthamstow to meet girlfriend's now-ex-flatmate to help him move some of his old stuff from his old house to South London, drove to South London, did big shop in Asda, drove back to our house, unpacked very slowly, fought unsuccesfully with bookshelf. Drank pear cider. Slept.

I defeated the bookshelf last night.

Fri - went to NEDFAP, where I got reasonably drunk but left at a sensible hour.

Sat - met up with various ILX people in the pub, then walked around Hoxton where we looked at some ART and then some REALLY AWESOME ART followed by pub, then curry, then brief appearance at a house party.

Sun - watched Spurs v Chelsea in the pub, walked in the park in the lovely springlike weather, met my returning housemate for a pint then watched torrented episodes of Lost. Awesome.

Matt, I think I read about that Buchel one in the New Statesman. Is there a big archaeological dig at the end of it? They made it sound a lot more claustrophobic and forbidding than it looks from those photos. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else entirely.

accentmonkey, Tuesday, 13 March 2007 10:17 (eighteen years ago)

work saturday, then made poorly constructed plans to meet friend in Nothing Hill. only she didn't get the messages i left so i spent an hour standing like a lemon in front of some pub or other. called again on the offchance as i was leaving and she'd just got in from amsterdam, was there 5 minutes later. hadn't seen her in 6 years or so and she only had a couple of hours to spare so was short and sweet.

sunday, home for funeral. only the traffic in notting hill was heavy and i got to paddington about 15 minutes late. then they sold me a ticket via stroud, which meant i couldn't get the alternative service via Worcester. in the time it took to sort that out i'd missed the Worcester train anyway. then Bristol Parkway was shut so i had to go via Temple Meads (actually, i was lucky, the next train turned into a bus at Swindon). those 15 minutes added 2 full hours to my journey.
