Help me remember the title of this film I once saw!

Okay the details are sketchy to say the least:

The film concerns periwigged french aristocrats. I can't remember if it's in english or french (although i think french). It concerns a writer and has something to do with a round room.

Any ideas?

no it was from the 80s and 90s and was quite glossy i think, and i seem to recall it being quite plot-driven. What that plot was, i don't know...
