Have you sent your card? Posted mine today. Yes, I am smug but she played a blinder this year and short of her birthday and xmas I don't really get to show her how much she is appreciated. My dad on the other hand can be satisfied with books, emails and interesting supplements from the papers being posted to him (I hope). So come on people, does anyone else try and remember Mothering Sunday?

FFS MARCH! Ah for crying out loud. To the mod board I go!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 16:38 (eighteen years ago)

what the fuck what day is mother's day??? it's in may??? I AM SO CONFUSED.

jessie monster, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

This Sunday, yes. But my mum lives in the US so she thinks that Mothers Day is in May, which is just silly. But she's a priest, so she does know what Mothering Sunday is. I don't send cards, though. Usually email of phone call.

You really are, it's only March. [Removed Illegal Link] isn't in the states?

kv_nol, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 16:41 (eighteen years ago)

Oh right. Different dates, here it's in March. More [Removed Illegal Link] if you need it.

My mother pissed off on holidays before my birthday, so she can KISS MY ASS if she thinks she's getting anything for mother's day.

Also, she is still on holidays, so I doubt she cares, really.

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 16:46 (eighteen years ago)

You are a cold and unforgiving daughter. (Said in the tones of Peig)

kv_nol, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

Fuck her! (I realise I will be sorry I said this when the master's son from the big house gets me pregnant and then fecks off to London to study for the church.)

accentmonkey, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 16:57 (eighteen years ago)

sometimes, mother's day falls on my birthday. sometimes, i think that i will get pregnant just so i can get double sets of gifts! then i realize that, if i was a child in that situation, i'd just be like "here is a joint birthday/mother's day gift" and i'm like oh fuck you too, invisible child.

I am about to go on my annual search for a card that says "Happy Mother's Day. Sorry for being a disappointment and not living just around the corner with a local girl and not phoning much and getting cross with you when I do."

Do Hallmark have such a card? WH Smith?

Dr.C, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

Just grab one of those "blank for your own message" ones

tissp, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

my mother's bday and mother's day are the same. i think. around the first weekend of may sometime for both.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

Occasionally my mum's birthday is the same day as Mother's Day. Not this year though. And thankyou for reminding me to buy a card! If I get one tomorrow lunchtime it should hopefully get there in time.

The great joy about growing up abroad is that I've never had to read that book. I love Irish people frothing at the mouth about it though :) I don't think it's on the leaving cert anymore, lucky little shits!

So true. All the other ones are so cloying that it makes it seem like you want to kill her with twee!

Also Ally and invisible child, I ROFLed!

Ronan, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

Okay,THAT'S considerate!

kv_nol, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

For the first time ever I am both daughter and mother on Mother's Day! And at the moment it looks like I will be too busy mothering to do any daughtering :(

Archel, Wednesday, 14 March 2007 20:20 (eighteen years ago)

Archel, that's so cool. Not the busy part, the mothering part.

That is totally cool. Now if you're kid forgets, well then that's just not cool. Age is no excuse!

Okay,THAT'S considerate!

turns out she's away in Greece for the weekend so I needn't have bothered! TWO POUNDS WASTED.

Ronan, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:21 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, take it out of the nursing home fund. That's just not on after all the effort.

kv_nol, Thursday, 15 March 2007 11:24 (eighteen years ago)

Irish mothers are getting a rep on this thread for just being away on holidays whenever they damn well feel like it.

accentmonkey, Thursday, 15 March 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

Mine's not! She's at home waiting for my elder sister to arrive and help her drink wine and things. It sounds like they're going to have a great weekend :(

kv_nol, Thursday, 15 March 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

More [Removed Illegal Link] if you need it.
