Frank Miller's 300-the movie (can't find any threads with search, also no spoilers please)

I take it Americans have seen this. Is it good?

I am really psyched to see it, everytime I see the trailer I think "wow!". It's not that I like high octane action, just that the film actually looks so good, plus I loved Sin City. Is it the same kind of ridiculous violence? It seems a little less tongue in cheek. Also I'm guessing it's one long action scene, again, normally wouldn't appeal to me but I also like the fact that it's based, however loosely, in Greek mythology.

Anyway am I going to be disappointed? I seldom see trailers and think "oh I can't wait to see this".

Also would I like any of Frank Miller's comics? I took Sin City as sort of, gloopy cultural pastiche of every action film ever made, or like a computer game you watched, kind of cheesy but still enthralling. Maybe others felt differently, but I do wonder if I should check out some Miller.

Ronan, c'mon, these threads aren't THAT hard to find. If you ran a find in page on 300 alone on New Answers you'd see this:

I think I blanked that thread out....thinking it was about something else...tho the thread title is burnt into my brain.

When I did a search all that came up was more specific discussions about the comic...couldn't find a thread for the film.

Anyway, is it bad then?

I've just read the comic. Here's hoping the film does it some justice.
