"Into Great Silence" - Who needs car chases anyway?

I went to see this last night. It was beautiful, a bit long in places but I don't think I've ever enjoyed a film more where so little happens! I came out of it buzzing away on good vibes, I'm not religious but it really did inspire warm thoughts towards others in me. I then had a glass of wine which thankfully brought me to my senses!

Has anyone else seen this? It seems to have done very well in the whole critical stakes but I wonder if anyone in their right mind would sit through the DVD, I can't lie people: This film is long!

Also, I want to live in the mountains now! So beautiful...

I saw it at the Edinburgh film festival last year and thought it was wonderful, even though I kind of almost fell asleep in a couple of places. It's a real shame that they didn't have enough money to shoot the whole thing on high quality film. I thought some of the cheapy digital stuff kind of let it down and made it difficult to see what was happening (or not happening) in some bits, but the stuff that was shot on good stock was truly breathtaking.

I wanna see this. I always wanted to be a monk, except for the religion thing.

Rener wanted to see that, but we never got round to it - our lives are so hectic, if only we could be like those monks.

There is something really compelling about that kind of life and its simplicity. If I could read about things other than God, I would seriously consider that kind of life.

It'll be back DV, keep an eye on Screen as they always bring back the big selling foreign films for a good stretch.

The bad camera tricks got on our nerves as well, there were times though when the flaring kind of worked e.g. when they're assembled at mass and there are little shimmer or pops off of the varnished wood. I liked when that happened.

NV so true and if you watch this you'd believe that the only problem these guys have is avoiding boredom!

I haven't made it there yet, as it was selling out every damn night at Film Forum.

Ditto here. It came over for the Film Festival and was such a hit (like Efter Bryllupet) that they decided to give it a wider release.
