Let Snoop in already. Come on, this shit's weak.

xo,
The U.S.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:35 (eighteen years ago)

His being banned did have the unexpected bonus of causing the cancellation of a P Diddy show, though.

Neil S, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:37 (eighteen years ago)

You're welcome for that. Now, trade Diddy for Snoop.

Actually, is there somewhere else you could ship Diddy off to instead of sending him back?

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)

Come on, this shit's weak.

Yeah, after America letting The View in it's the least we can do.

onimo, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:42 (eighteen years ago)

You're responsible for the View?!?! (And Survivor, and Big Brother. . .this is war!)

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:42 (eighteen years ago)

blueski, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:43 (eighteen years ago)

ha, i forgot that that wasn't just going to magically appear as clickable thread title

blueski, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:44 (eighteen years ago)

no, i think survivor was your fault. the dutch can take the blame for big brother.

jed_, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:44 (eighteen years ago)

He is also currently facing weapons and drugs charges in the US stemming from three separate arrests in 2006

It's hardly surprising is it? Quite apart from the fracas his mob caused last time he was here...

Ned Trifle II, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:45 (eighteen years ago)

Emu 'looked at him funny'

and where's Rod Hull now?

Mark G, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm not gonna cry too many tears over some dude being banned from a gig because he and his chums smashed up a duty free shop because they weren't being afforded special treatment.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

xpost Blueski.

I don't read ILM (as many others here don't)

xpost NedT.

come on, he's a rapper! pot and weapons! that's pretty much coming of age in the US!

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

i was just linking it for nostalgia purposes. sadly i can't find image of the Daily Star headline online.

blueski, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

ILM scares me. I'm afraid to read it's threads b/c I'll be overwhelmed by the music geekery.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

it's protectionism. we want to nurture our own hip hop industry. You know, like you do with steel.

Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:50 (eighteen years ago)

ah, okay. well good luck then. keep the streets and lady soverign while you're at it.

(and I think we'll keep AI)

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:51 (eighteen years ago)

we want to nurture our own hip hop industry.

ha ha, good one!

blueski, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

Nurturing homegrown industries - that's not very British, is it?

Tom D., Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

Live 8 was worth it for Snoop alone.

blueski, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

We should sell roll deep to a dubai backed consortium and The streets can get leveraged by Macquarie bank.

Ed, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

i was going to go to snoop/diddy tonight :(

lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:04 (eighteen years ago)

I love rap and have a great fondness for the UK but have a hard time believing that any English person besides Slick Rick can actually pull it off. Granted, I haven't heard much modern stuff so I'm probably missing out on the Great British Hope of Hip Hop. ( I do like a bit of The Streets and Lady Sovereign but after more than a couple of tracks I quickly collapse into "Roffle, Brits can't rap!")

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:05 (eighteen years ago)

Sway's signed to Akon's label in the States now. And Kano's on the new Def Jam wrasslin' game! Fuck knows how his agent swung that.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:07 (eighteen years ago)

I also believe that white men can't jump, or something.

Sarah, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

haha!

"nah dis fockin' headlock's puttin' me to sleep"

Michael Philip Philip Philip philip Annoyman, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:08 (eighteen years ago)

It's a shame Sway's not in the Def Jam game as well really. Unlockable Charlie Boy alter ego = $$$

Michael Philip Philip Philip philip Annoyman, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

so connesiours of brit hip hop, who would you recommend?

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:09 (eighteen years ago)

also note, this is not a racial thing b/c white americans can rap very well.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

Americans

Tom D., Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

xp!

Tom D., Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

Looking to The Streets and Lady Sov as representative of Brits MC/rap strengths is pretty ridiculous. Sov is rubbish on anything under 150bpm.

blueski, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:11 (eighteen years ago)

also note, this is not a racial thing b/c white americans can rap very well

yep, that Vanilla Ice was just amazing!

Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

well, that's why I'm asking for recommendations! (besides Tom's) I seriously never encounter any in my normal American Hip-Hop life.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

there is no good british hip hop, sorry

600, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

true. roots manuva's still pretty unique-sounding and cool i think. also, the nextmen.

CharlieNo4, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:14 (eighteen years ago)

haha xpost to blueski!

CharlieNo4, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:15 (eighteen years ago)

Witness, One Hope is a good place to start with roots manuva.

Ed, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

er DIZZEE

sway is good, which the disappointing album should not detract from

there are a bunch of grime mcs who were stunning on about one song each.

so no one else, no.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

oh yeah roots manuva! forgot about him.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

Blak Twang!

Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

why dont you make a list of good british tennis players while you are at it?

600, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

Blak Twang?

Also this is awesome but old:

SILVER BULLET

Colonel Poo, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

Credit to the Nation!

Grandpont Genie, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

estelle was good too.

uk's problem is not that british people can't rap, plenty can - it's that british people can't do good hip-hop production.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

Hardnoise! Silver Bullet! Demon Boyz!

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

British can do a "kind" of hip-hop production, it's just that it's all fucking floppy "menacing" Mobb Deep piano shit.

Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

why dont you make a list of good british tennis players while you are at it?

naomi cavaday is the latest Big Hope, she just won a pretty strong $25k challenger in california with some v impressive wins over abigail spears, kristina brandi, romana tedjakusuma and karin knapp.

she might get to the top 100 one day.

lex pretend, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

dunno why Americans would care about/want to hear British hip-hop anyway regardless of it's competence/quality!

if i had to pick something i would probably go with extra yard (bouncement revolution) - but this stuff is closer to AntPop or El-P than it is to any massively successful US artists - obv. there is no competition here.

blueski, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:23 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe we should tell DangerMouse to stop messing around with Damon Albarn and get to doing hip hop again.

I will look for some the above mentioned Brit-Hoppers.

Meanwhile, back to topic. ..

Look how sad he is!

I bet he wanted to ride your big ferris wheel.

Ms Misery, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

He's keen on the UK's new ISA regulations I see.

onimo, Tuesday, 27 March 2007 13:25 (eighteen years ago)

dear england,

please find enclosed the AMY WINEHOUSE you sent us. we contacted you after the incidents with LILY ALLEN and THE STREETS being mailed to us despite filling out the little card that said we weren't interested and would appreciate not being sent any further SPEAKY SINGY SORT OF HIP-HOP PEOPLE at this address. please make a note of it.

blueski, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 14:32 (eighteen years ago)

well it was in fact a snooty englander who made the decision so i think you're right there Sam

Hang On, isn't the bloke ultimately responsible the biggest baddest Scottish bruiser in the government?

Ed, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

I have a mid to late 90s "Production" album from a group called Unsung Heroes that's pretty good, but it's almost all american MCs of the Fondle Em/Rawkus variety.

I also have a compilation (forget the name right now) with a pretty good track by a group called Invisible Mics that I never heard of before or since. They had lime flavored accents, but could have been faking for some reason.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

Keep in mind though that I like Lily Allen, so maybe you shouldn't be listening to me.

Oilyrags, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

haha I saw Snoop on TV last night pleaing in a horrendous fake British accent, I'm like "yes dude that is exactly the way to appeal to your captors!", I only said captors though because I was feeling frisky and it sounds fun when you yell it.

nickalicious, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

woops Ed is right, i forgot it's not Charles Clarke anymore

that said, i doubt John Reid was personally involved in denying Snoop a visa, although it is entertaining to imagine that he was

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 14:47 (eighteen years ago)

haha I saw Snoop on TV last night pleaing in a horrendous fake British accent, I'm like "yes dude that is exactly the way to appeal to your captors!",

you tube? could be better than sad-faced snoop above longing for crumpets.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

I'll try to find it when I get home, youtube is flagged or something here. I think it was on MSNBC last night.

nickalicious, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:27 (eighteen years ago)

The Dr could take Snoop any day.

Ed, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

how soon before 50 cent and the g-unit crew get banned from the UK as well?!?

Eisbaer, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

when are they next due to tour?

Ed, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

ooh i wanna go and see 50 cent when he tours!

lex pretend, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:48 (eighteen years ago)

You'll be taking a trip to yurp then.

Ed, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

50 Cent? If charity shops are anything to go by it would be more appropriate to call him 50 Pence!

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

maybe snoop should be let back into the UK, on the condition that he has to spend his entire tour w/ that fat british chick who got kicked off that reality TV show for being a racist twat.

Eisbaer, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

Dear America,

Could you please be really petty and do the same thing to David Beckham for a laugh?

grimly, I wasn't sure if he was banned from all of the UK or not. So just decided I would blame the snooty englanders for the faux pas

you should come and live in scotland! then you can blame snooty englanders (like, er, me, but i've gone native) for absolutely everything.

A really crap horn section, it lacks the kick in the guts drive that a proper soul/funk horn section should have and does not match her voice at all.

Snoop Dogg and his pals smash up a duty free shop and are banned from re-entering the country.

Fair enough, so long as they do the same to David Cameron and his Bullingdon Club pals.

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 29 March 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

I mean Cameron allegedly threw a pot plant through a restaurant window! We can't be having that!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 29 March 2007 12:23 (eighteen years ago)

I read that as a plea for Snoop to smash up David Cameron etc. How we laughed when I realised my error

Jade Goody isn't particularly 'fat' and she wasn't 'kicked off' Big Brother for being a 'racist twat'

1) only because she had it hoovered out of her!
2) why else did people vote to evict her?
