stovetop espresso maker

I almost bought one of these at Marshall's, but I put it down and bought a couple of lovely Perry Ellis shirts instead.

-cell phone

I take it for granted. To me this is like saying, "Roofs are great, since they keep out the rain." Cameraphone, however re-ignited the love of the phone."

well, that's the thing. the thing's an email device, mini-web browser, stopwatch, alarm clock, vid/still camera, two-way pager, mini-audio recorder, games platform, calendar, calculator, floor wax, desert topping.

kingfish, Wednesday, 28 March 2007 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

I don't like my cellphone. I only have it because i don't have a landline, and it barely even works in my apartment. Maybe it's not the phone I hate, maybe it's Cingular.

SKY PLUS

So OTM. Watching telly with ads is for LOSERS.

Also this is brilliant:

But I bet the link is illegal or summat.

Actually, I'll caveat the sky plus thing: It's great until it breaks. I am now into my third week of trying to get my pause/play/record facilities re-instated, whilst still paying for them. It's like buying cocaine only to find it's talcum powder.

Arse ache. Yeah, sometimes the pause and record stuff fucks up on ours, but I just unplug it and take out the cards and leave it for a while and then plug it all back in. I do this a couple of times and it starts working again. I've never had it be so bad that it lasted three weeks. That's fierce.

accentmonkey, Friday, 30 March 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

Worst bit is the fact that you have to explain the whole thing again from the beginning every time you phone them (which is every day - I've already rung them once this morning), cause they keep no note on your account or anything. Oh, the number of times I've heard the phrase: "We've sent some signals to your box. It could take anything from two minutes to four hours for it to start working again." WOA: if it don't work after two minutes it's not going to.

I think I may add this to the batshit neuroses/petty things thread.

Morphy Richards. We got given it for Christmas and I use it for everything.

accentmonkey, Friday, 30 March 2007 12:47 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I know!

-electric toothbrush! It's not even an expensive SonicCare--just a cheapy Braun/Oral-B spinbrush, but it makes a world of difference.

Jesse, Friday, 30 March 2007 14:27 (eighteen years ago)

Sonic toothbrushing is a con. Yer spinbrushes are still best.

Where do I begin? Hmm. Cellphone I could do without (but of course I don't).
Digital telly? Yes, great but I don't watch it THAT often.
DVD recorder? Yep, although I don't use it THAT often.
Microwave? Yep, very handy.
Computer? Oh YES! Complete with INTAHNET.

Maria, here it was the other way around. About a decade ago I bought amongst other a photocopier and a cellphone for my parents.

stevienixed, Saturday, 31 March 2007 07:26 (eighteen years ago)

My Sky Plus is now FIXED! TFFT! Just in time for me to stick loads of things into my planner to record whilst I'm at my parents' for Easter. Yay Sky Plus: you are the best invention since PENICILLIN. Or the WHEEL. Or LIE-INS.

peteR, Thursday, 5 April 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

My Swiss Army pocket knife. Mine has two blades (small and large), plus a can opener that doubles as a small screwdriver, a bottle opener that doubles as a larger screwdriver, a tweezers, and a toothpick. I am never without it - so it is a good thing I never fly anywhere!

Aimless, Thursday, 5 April 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

I have lost two of those knives because I took them where I shouldn't've - Prestwick airport and Bologna football stadium respectively. I did take a knife on the Eurostar (where you don't check your baggage) but they didn't find it.

Mark C, Thursday, 5 April 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)

I want to clarify that I never bought Penny. I believe in human freedom and would never purchase a bright, capable young lady with her whole future ahead of her. I would have no ethical objections to paying money for Brain, but he already has a loving family, and anyway he's probably passed on by now.

My faves =

1. my Olympus digital voice recorder, which in addition to interview use can turn a long walk into 10 pages of writing

2. my watch, which looks vaguely like an amplifier and for some reason can also record things

two years pass...

I've been wanting to revive this thread for a while b/c over the past 3 years many wonderful products have enhanced my life in many ways. Today I am grateful for:

- Roomba. OMG how Roomba has paid off.
- iPhone. <3
- White Bright https://cdn.alice.com/images/products/1264476/300.jpg?1251913699
I bought this on the off chance it would save the 6 or 7 yellow/grey undershirts - with terrible pit stains - that I was going to throw out, but which were otherwise wearable. Shockingly, it made them completely white as new.

Smart Cat Box is on my faves list.

http://i.imgur.com/GbCSs.jpg

Cat pees drains through safflower seeds, through a grate, into a reservoir, which you empty into the toilet. Safflower seeds are oily, so they don't absorb the urine. Shit gets scooped out and goes into toilet. *Huge* advantage is no grit tracked around, plus cat can't accidentally step into urine puddle and get a piss clump on a foot.

I have partially recovered from anosmia, and cat urine is one of the few things I can sometimes smell, and it seems like it doesn't stink with this box.

Dollar stores are great. Besides stuff like household cleaner, plastic bins for misc crap, and super glue, I've found surprises like Parmalat and my usual brand of soy milk, which is ~$2 at the grocery store next door.
