Which one had a cooler mullet? Which one taught you more about the world?

I always though MacGyver was a cool hero for kids, because he hated guns and rarely used violence, and instead solved things with his wits.

Captain Planet because look how unintentionally racially tolerant he is!

HEART

Oh please, for a guy whose purview is the PLANET, he's awfully Eurocentric, with his English monolingual stuff and his extra white person. Clearly for the proper planetary perspective he should have two east Asians, one south Asian, and then one each for African, European, and "mostly indigenous Latin American mestizo." That said, I think he was very important in bringing global awareness to the rich cultural and ecological history of blue people.

I forgot one (1) Pacific Islander, and probably something else.

nabisco, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:07 (eighteen years ago)

Well, maybe half a Pacific Islander, let's not get crazy. Maybe there's a baby Pacific Islander they all sit for.

nabisco, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

macguyver could destroy captain's planet with a tampon and chinese coin

Wasn't GAIA supposed to be pacific islander?

I've got it: one of my east Asians can be Hawaiian/Asian. And then there should be another guy who's Syrian/Australian aboriginal and is known as THE DISTRACTOR, because in the middle of a pitched battle, the ecological villains always start looking across the group and going "wait, that guy is ... what are you, like, Brazilian, or something?"

I think they were organized by continent, actually, with white people for both Europe and N. America. And no Australia, cause that would have just been rubbing it in, to be throwing in white people for every continent they took over.

nabisco, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah wasn't the blonde British?

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 29 March 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

Polish?

Macgyver, since they always had to show him hurting his hand after punching somebody. Even after 5-7 years of adventures and punching, dude never took any martial arts or learned how to do it proper, so they could show that he was a reluctant violent type and a sensitive thinker and stuff.

Linka was the Planeteer with the power of "Wind". She is from Russia, which at the time of the series's creation was part of the Soviet Union — this was generalized in the beginning opener as "Eastern Europe" after the Soviet Union's collapse in 1991. She was voiced by Kath Soucie.

best bit on the captain planet wikipedia page (about kwame):

Another trait of Kwame is his ability to make what seem to be humorous comments without changing his voice or facial inflections in the least, making his character somewhat difficult to read and more desirable for some to connect to.

I always felt so bad for the poor kid from India on Cpn. OPlanet. He had the least abuseable power.

There was no kid form India in C. Planet, was there? Did you mean the kid with the "heart" power? He was South American.

I just found out Kwame was voiced by LeVar Burton! I used to watch both Captain Planet and Star Trek: TNG when I was a kid, but I never made the connection back then.
