how does he connect to ile?

Zeno, Saturday, 31 March 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know, but there is a forum: http://www.paperthinwalls.com/forum/

dan m, Saturday, 31 March 2007 15:46 (eighteen years ago)

PTW = our kind overlords and masters. (It's a great site -- quite a few familiar ILX names on there, to put it mildly.)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 31 March 2007 15:51 (eighteen years ago)

ok but also "sponsored"?

Zeno, Saturday, 31 March 2007 15:54 (eighteen years ago)

They are essentially letting us use their bandwidth, in return for putting their logo on the front page.

Matt DC, Saturday, 31 March 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

There should still be a link to Freaky Trigger somewhere.

Is "Paper Thin Walls" named for the Modest Mouse song of the same name?

Ben Boyerrr, Saturday, 31 March 2007 21:13 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha If i were freaky trigger I wouldn't want to be linked to this hell hole. Be grateful to PTW, because without them, some other bugger would have to subsidise this place.

Charlie, Sunday, 1 April 2007 01:16 (eighteen years ago)

these walls are paper thin and everyone hears every little sound

theoreo, Sunday, 1 April 2007 03:19 (eighteen years ago)

Is "Paper Thin Walls" named for the Modest Mouse song of the same name?

Nope. They named it before I came aboard, but they apparently just named it after the simile.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, 1 April 2007 08:38 (eighteen years ago)

this redesign = blech.

fukasaku tollbooth, Monday, 9 July 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

my workplace blocking the PTW site = blech

David R., Monday, 9 July 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

the new streaming album concept is a nice touch tho.

will ilx have to find a new home now that getty images has purchased paper thin walls?

drone/a/sore, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

clearly getty purchased it for its roffles picshurs

YGS, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

$850,000 !

http://www.thedailyswarm.com/swarm/getty-images-listening-through-paper-thin-walls/

In a little-noticed SEC filing last May, Getty also revealed the purchase of Paper Thin Walls, an indie-centric music reviews and news website, for $850,000.

i was pals with kevin bacon's dad! so they aren't far off.

scott seward, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

i think Ned deserves to be in this diagram linked to AMG, who else?

djmartian, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:25 (eighteen years ago)

Five degrees of Scott Seward

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

i think Ned deserves to be in this diagram linked to AMG, who else?

Oh please. It's not like I'm the only link there, for a start. Might matter some more if I ever got around to pitching to PTW but I'm a lazy rat bastard and everyone seems to have already covered things by the time I figure out I want to talk about 'em.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:35 (eighteen years ago)

(That's not a complaint about PTW, I should note! Like I said, I tend towards the lazy -- well either that or I'm busy cooking, taking photographs, etc. Pay rate's pretty nice, though, I should be less slack.)

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

I am, however, now wondering when there will be the overall iPlace tool for one's iPhone that allows you to track your last.fm scrobble via a bookmark on deli.cio.us that in turns links to Facebook via an LJ comment on one's Myspace page, which in turn allows you to blog-comment on everything else. One random flame of the Arcade Fire somewhere and you could destroy the Internet.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:39 (eighteen years ago)

^ of course this will all be implanted in yr arm

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

To hell with my arm. Start with someone else's.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:50 (eighteen years ago)

Bummed to hear that Weingarten isn't drumming for P&L anymore; doubly bummed to hear about it from a humorous infographic. That last record was a beast. If I wasn't far from NYC and way out of practice I'd probably try out for the gig.

I've always kind of assumed that there's some good content on Paper Thin Walls, but it's really hard to get past the too-Pitchforky main page and the annoying blog/news aggregator that makes you click twice to get to every link, and the recent redesign didn't do much to improve either. A more unique and/or user-friendly layout would go a long way.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:57 (eighteen years ago)

Aw, thx, AiB re: the kind words on the rekkid. I like that one too!

As for the news aggregator (aka The Bullhorn), if you click on the name of the source it comes from--either click the logo or the little bold faced source name at the end of the entry--it goes right to the story in a popup with no second click-thru!

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 26 July 2007 01:46 (eighteen years ago)

Ah, so I see. Guess I was clicking the wrong place, thanks.

Alex in Baltimore, Thursday, 26 July 2007 01:56 (eighteen years ago)

Number ratings are for retards plz stop using them in lieu of song descriptions on your front page. This is rockcrit not NASDAQ.

da croupier, Thursday, 26 July 2007 02:37 (eighteen years ago)

the band's genre would be more helpful, really. you could make 'em funny too!

da croupier, Thursday, 26 July 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

haha oh wait you have those now.

da croupier, Thursday, 26 July 2007 02:41 (eighteen years ago)

you may have always had them. I guess the numbers everywhere blinded me.

da croupier, Thursday, 26 July 2007 02:42 (eighteen years ago)

problems?

fukasaku tollbooth, Sunday, 9 December 2007 15:10 (seventeen years ago)

I'm guessing they're going through the same thing we did. Odd, though, since I didn't think they were moving.

stet, Sunday, 9 December 2007 23:16 (seventeen years ago)

Private SF firm to buy Getty Images

akm, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

No mention of the importance of ILX in this transaction, FOR SHAME.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 18:25 (seventeen years ago)

Yeh, there's no way a private equity firm will want to get rid of us, right?

stet, Tuesday, 26 February 2008 21:23 (seventeen years ago)

six months pass...

so, uh, PTW is a done deal apparently. is it too soon to ask what that means, if anything, for the message board with its logo in the upper right corner?

DG, Friday, 29 August 2008 10:26 (seventeen years ago)

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 29 August 2008 13:12 (seventeen years ago)

are they shutting it down completely, then?

stet, Friday, 29 August 2008 13:32 (seventeen years ago)

i'm working with them to keep an archive up, but there will be no new content after tuesday :(

Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 29 August 2008 13:37 (seventeen years ago)

Ah, what a shame, there was a certain dry wit in a lot of the pieces I read that I liked a lot.

Beatrix Kiddo, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:00 (seventeen years ago)

that's not a bad idea, max - maybe i'll make it a weekly feature or something. but no-one's gonna pay me for that, you know?

Beatrix Kiddo, Friday, 29 August 2008 16:01 (seventeen years ago)
