ok i dont mean to sound like one of those geeks who complains over minor bs wahwah this message board is not doing what i think it should but unfortunately i am about to, because after that reworking it was a lot lot faster than i remembered & then now it seems to be a lot lot slower than i remember. and it can be kind of annoying because i actually only read the first & last couple posts on every thread, because im lazy, & then i have to wait 3 minutes for a thread to load & its like why....WHY????

since this being an internet msg board i an sure you are not short on geeks im sure im not the first to bring this up but is it temporary or what cuz its kind of annoying.

Actually, it may surprise you to know there are no geeks on this board. Only cool surfer and jock types. If you don't believe me, try searching for geek topics like Star Trek, Futurama, indie music, blogging, etc. You'll find nothing! Only threads about weight lifting etc. Also, it's a curious fact that almost no-one on ILX wears thick glasses.

3 things:

1. The temporary Apache proxy can make things slow. If you want to get MAX SPEED, bookmark http://www.ilxor.com:8080/ILX/

2. There's an temporary bug that's slowing the db when it looks up old thread ids. When lots of googlers are coming in, that can slow things down a bit. I'll fix this tonight or tomorrow.

3. We sometimes get pretty slow connections from our hosts. I don't know why, but there's zip I can do about it. I've checked the server when the pages get really slow, and it's usually haring along with very little load, so it's not us.

Deeznuts, thanks for not being a moaning bastard. I don't think it's a software thing as I'm currently getting responses instantaneously. There are so many things in between that could cause problems, your ISP, our ISP, anything in between and so on.

The proxy will slow things up a little, but probably not noticable. Even the issue Stet alludes to is unlikely to be a problem, since given the amount it's been hit, the DB will have everything in memory.

Hope it is OK for you... I am 99.9% certain that it's not code changes that have made it slower, because if it was, it would be slow all the time, and it's not slow for me.

hey thx stet & keith, im pretty sure its stopped now; it may still be off & on but only on occasion, prolly just isp or something. other weird thing tho - firefox cannot load the site at all, i just click the link & get a 'waiting for...' thing at the bottom, but im sure that must just be me, dunno whats up w/ that.

as for you aimless you can eat a raw pig testicle or two cuz im gonna hog all the glory i damn well please you whiny fuck!*

*raw is v important as fried ones are a delicacy around here although there are those who state that overcooking them 'defeats the whole purpose'

I can only get through on 8080, and it's still really slow. Actually, I can only get through on 8080 with IE: as deeznuts says, Firefox can't load the site at all on my computer.
