They are the same, are they not?

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 5 April 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

for fuck's sake.

http://freakytrigger.co.uk/poptimism

http://www.crimesagainstpop.com/

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 5 April 2007 12:30 (eighteen years ago)

they both play the same kinds of music yeah

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 12:33 (eighteen years ago)

Um.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 5 April 2007 12:34 (eighteen years ago)

The First Ten Seconds Of Babylon Zoo’s Spaceman

hahahahahahbrilliant

peteR, Thursday, 5 April 2007 12:51 (eighteen years ago)

hasn't been updated since the last Club Popular!

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 12:53 (eighteen years ago)

oh wait it totally has, hurrah

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:05 (eighteen years ago)

Do they play the same kind of music? I've never been to Crimes Against Pop but judging by its playlists is looks even more indie than Poptimism - ie still attempting to walk that Credible Pop Line that Poptimists stopped bothering with ages ago. I don't know, would Crimes Against Pop play Dr Alban or Schnappi Das Kleine Krocodile?

Matt DC, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

crimes vs pop is darker i think.. i can never see people's faces properly (good thing for me prolly), more crowded, but easier to get to by tube.

more space to dance at poptimism.. more light

ken c, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:18 (eighteen years ago)

they are TOTALLY more indie than us ;)

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

Is there any way that you can ban a single user from a single thread?

Coz I'd really like to be banned from this thread. I really probably shouldn't contribute anything, but I'm finding it really hard.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

i cannot comment on music as i never really pay attention to it.

ken c, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

you'll just have to think whether it will be be a 'contribution' per se.

ken c, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

kate, i think yr better instincts are right...

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

ken, which has the fitter girls then?

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

the point about Dr Alban and Schnappi is good. you get the sense that CAP are probably only interested in playing 00s pop - not much 70s and 80s and almost certainly no 90s. but i've not been so this could be an inaccurate impression.

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

Yes. They have very similar tastes to the Poptimists LJ community, I'd say, but are somewhat cooler and maybe a different kind of indier than Poptimism The Club Night.

Groke, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

which is just us playing carter all night rly....

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

what the hell is up with our google map - it keeps reverting to mark up :-(

Alan, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:33 (eighteen years ago)

different kind of indie is good point too. would CAP play Carter?

incidentally when was the last time Carter were played at Poptimism anyway?!

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

Carsmile did you ever find a Carter Megamix?

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

is that an offer to make one?

the concept of "playing carter all night" doesn't necessarily involve playing any carter...

CarsmileSteve, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

Be careful what you 'wish' for Steve.

Matt DC, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

There are some very convincing moral/historical reasons for no ilXors ever going anywhere near CAP. I'm not going to go into them, but as you can see from one ILX regular's response to this thread, even mentioning it causes much anguish.

Lock thread, please? (honestly)

CharlieNo4, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

not an offer!

the concept of "playing carter all night" doesn't necessarily involve playing any carter..

reminds me of that old maxim 'it doesn't have to have a packed dancefloor to be an indie disco'?

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

some people do not care about whatever history some other people have with CAP and they'll talk about it if they want to?

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

They are the same, are they not?

bit like sinister and bowlie then?

Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:09 (eighteen years ago)

these seem to be far more similar, in that their form is identical (both clubs), as well as content (indie and pop music).

The Real Dirty Vicar, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:18 (eighteen years ago)

the clue is in the colour scheme if you ask me

Alan, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

who's playing dreary dismal music anyway? fighting an enemy that's not there I reckon.

'sides, doing a parody of the opening voiceover to the A Team is neither big nor clever.

Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:24 (eighteen years ago)

CAP is ex-Strange Fruit people, right? I did have a good time the couple of times I went to that, but I've never been to CAP. I used to know one of the DJs at SF but she doesn't appear to have moved over to the new night.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:31 (eighteen years ago)

who's playing dreary dismal music anyway? fighting an enemy that's not there I reckon.

they're fighting "normal" indie clubs that play razorlight and the kooks and the twang or whatever, and "normal" pop clubs that may indeed play girls aloud and sugababes but also go heavy on the slow r'n'b jamz and are full of chavvy undesirables.

shit, i'm not meant to be here.

CharlieNo4, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:33 (eighteen years ago)

I wish we had more slow r'n'b jamz at Poptimism.

Groke, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)

Jodeci we love Jodeci...

Colonel Poo, you mean Nico? she still goes to it often I think.

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:37 (eighteen years ago)

i don't think the girls are 'fitter' one place or the other (see once again the darkness factor of buffalo bars).. but there are probably more girls at CAP.. percentage wise.

also: you get pints at poptimism. which is a plus point.

ken c, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:51 (eighteen years ago)

pints is a big plus point.

Grandpont Genie, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

I do mean Nico! I haven't seen her in a while, although I did bump into her at ATP before Xmas (drunk, obviously). How did you guess that though?

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:56 (eighteen years ago)

educated guess :)

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

Now I'm scared.

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 April 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

no need to be scared. i know her so when you said 'used to know someone from SF but who doesn't play at CAP' it just seemed obvious.

but if you do hear the sound of someone going thru your bins later tonight don't worry, just lil old me.

blueski, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:05 (eighteen years ago)

That's OK, we're moving soon to thwart your evil plans.

Next time you see her, say Mark says hello. She will probably have no idea who you're talking about :P

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

I've never been to either b/c live too far away, obv. An easy win for poptimism, based on the websites. Poptimism looks like a lot of fun, the other one is a bit hypy, I dunno, it's lacking something, somehow.

Pashmina, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

someone from SF but who doesn't play at CAP

That could have been me! (though I don't know if I DJed at the same time as this Nico)

Mark C, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:39 (eighteen years ago)

nico used to dj at CAP

as did marianna! briefly.

ken c, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

Oh I see. I'm old skool SF (2001-2 reprazent)

Mark C, Thursday, 5 April 2007 15:58 (eighteen years ago)

Or not.

Masonic Boom, Thursday, 5 April 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

Well there were some good people involved too.

Mark C, Thursday, 5 April 2007 16:00 (eighteen years ago)

when i next dj at poptimism i will be sure to play an entire set of r&b slow jamz, ie possibly the greatest genre known to man

lex pretend, Friday, 6 April 2007 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

Worst you mean.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy, Friday, 6 April 2007 02:31 (eighteen years ago)

Not *the* best (that's clearly nose-flute music) but one of, yes.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 6 April 2007 02:36 (eighteen years ago)

The problem with an entire set of r&b slow jamz is that it raises the image of the Poptimism dancefloor actually dancing to r&b slow jamz which MUST NEVER BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN.

Matt DC, Friday, 6 April 2007 10:33 (eighteen years ago)

you'd love it ;)

CarsmileSteve, Friday, 6 April 2007 10:36 (eighteen years ago)

poptimism has sultans of ping

i choose crimes against pop, whatever the hell that is

600, Friday, 6 April 2007 10:41 (eighteen years ago)

oh. bad pictures. bad matt.

emsk, Friday, 6 April 2007 10:52 (eighteen years ago)
