This message has just been broadcast over our tannoy. Which means that I can't work. I have no excuse NOT to post to ILE/M. Yay!

Does this happen at your workplace much? And if so how do you use the time?

new system shutdown answers!

MarkH, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't understand.

All of my work is done over the network...none of the files I work on are housed on the hard drive of the pc.

there was a rush towards the coat rack when the announcement was made by all those desperate for a fag.

MarkH, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Ah. So there's really nothing you can do? Ace. Not really something I can talk about. At my work even when things aren't working we stay open.

alix, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

even if it's the electricity? Now the last time I was at work during a power cut the time was used oh so constructively. It was the biggets elastic band fight I have ever seen!

MarkH, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes, I imagine that even a power cut wouldn't stop us trading. I shall have to try it and see.

We had the fiftieth false fire alarm this year this morning (only it didn't even go off properly so we couldn't hear it and if it had been real I would now be burned to a cinder) so could not work but had to stand on the street looking bored instead. And typically this happens the only morning of my life that I am actually busy, grrr. I took out my irritation on a cycle courier who pushed through the queue to get back into the building and we had a FITE to the horror of my fellow queuees.

usually when that happened in my former company staff reductions of some sort were imminent.

maura, Tuesday, 19 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I have an assignment due in tomorrow but when I went to collect the instructions today the fire alarm went off as soon as I got in the building. Yay.

I have a lazy problem in my brain and it means I only have lectures when I want to. Brilliant huh?!!!

In my organisation, I am the person who sends those messages.

and everyone says "fuck off, we're too important for you to bring down the server and do work on it".

So then it crashes and they can't do any work for a whole day, bless them.
