BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 12 April 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

have you tried typing the 'fu,' then cutting & pasting the 'ck'? works for me.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 12 April 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

Fcuk. I invariably type it that way anyway, so I usually just leave it.

luna, Thursday, 12 April 2007 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

I believe "flip" and "forget" are standard.

Mark C, Thursday, 12 April 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

why are you cursing in your work e-mail? don't get me wrong, i'm into it, but i'm just curious.

My wanky Oxford friends, all of whom went to work in The City, write "$hit". LOL money.

a linux nerd writes: fsck = file system check (used wrongly it can screw up your hard drives)

i had to write a profanity filter for work. it had a blacklist for all the swearwords and anything containing these were rewritten with ****s. there was also a whitelist to get around the Scunthorpe problem. we didn't bother with anything else - it's easier to get around stuff than it is to block it.

koogs, Thursday, 12 April 2007 19:27 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't even know workplaces did this! I'm going to send a "Fuck." to all my coworkers now just because I can.
If I can :/

My predecessor here wrote a very basic profanity filter, but forgot about the Scunthorpe problem. As we have an office in Scunthorpe, this was a bit of an oversight.

We don't bother with a profanity filter any more - its purpose was to catch porn spam, so I replaced it with a half-decent spam filter.

I am a big fan of replacing u's with v's - (eg fvck off you cvnt) so it looks like ROMAN SWEARING.

Matt DC, Friday, 13 April 2007 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

StanM, Friday, 13 April 2007 11:05 (eighteen years ago)

Solution is of course not swearing.

nathalie, Friday, 13 April 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

Accents sometimes work (ctrl alt vowel if you're using an English keyboard - fúck). If you can use html in the message you might be able to get by it by, for example, opening and closing a tag in the middle of the word with nothing inside it (ie - fu<b></b>ck). This works on plenty of message boards, pages seem to scan for swearwords before they look for html/bbcode.
