All my scars are really dumb ones, like the one on my knuckle from opening a can of tuna and slicing my hand open. I do have a weird scar behind one ear from an operation though.

Trayce, Sunday, 15 April 2007 08:46 (eighteen years ago)

I have two eye scars. Because I had two eye operations, the wild tissue (?) didn't disappear but remained. People usually ask about it after a while. It's a bit creepy looking when you look up close: there's fluid underneath it. In the past it would hurt a little but only temporarily.

I have a small scar from my dog (RIP) biting me in the lip but it's only noticeable when you know it or I point it out.

Small scar from chickenpox, between my two eyes.

That's about it really, as far as I can remember.

nathalie, Sunday, 15 April 2007 08:51 (eighteen years ago)

Eye scars: so on my eye balls.

nathalie, Sunday, 15 April 2007 08:51 (eighteen years ago)

Burn marks all up my arms because I am the clumsiest person in the world and am incapable of taking something out of the oven without leaving some skin attached to the side of it.

Scar under my chin where I spectacularly catapulted myself over the handlebars of my bike and landed chin-first on a pointy sharp stone and had to get stitched up.

Think that's it.

ailsa, Sunday, 15 April 2007 08:54 (eighteen years ago)

I've got a biggish one on the top of my head somewhere which can only be seen when I shave my head (no hair grows there but my hair's so thick it gets covered soon enough) which I got when I cracked my head open by bashing it into the frame of my bed.

And a small one above my right eye where a piece of fibre glass fell on me. I love both of them dearly.

edwardo, Sunday, 15 April 2007 08:56 (eighteen years ago)

I have a squidgy little one on my knee from falling on sharp rocks as a 5 year old.

From a bike accident when I was 15 I have a jaggedy thing on my chin and a similarly abstract mess on my throat near an artery, as well as a cute little "r" shaped bump on my hand. I was on my paper round and went through the rear windcreen of a car. That one nearly killed me.

Most recently I have two weird bullet-hole-shaped (that's how i like to think of them anyway) red blobs on my elbow from a (vaguely drunken) bike accident in December. Hopped off the curb onto a wet road near the Prince Albert in Brighton, bike slipped from underneath and I slid elbow down along the road.

Uptoeleven, Sunday, 15 April 2007 08:57 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I forgot, I have a scar on my right shin from when I fell through the floor of the Usher Hall while pogoing to Belle and Sebastian.

ailsa, Sunday, 15 April 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

From the top down:

-half inch due to respirator inserted into the right side of my throat at birth
-inch long from tube inserted between right ribs to drain lungs of fluid
-6 in. just under ribs from lower back to left side due to heart surgery
-half inch on left side from some other fuckin tube
-5 in. on the back of each calf from surgery to stretch tendons

Occassionally I make up stories for these just cause I like to bullshit people. I once told someone that the 6 incher on the back was due to running from a dude with a knife.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 15 April 2007 09:36 (eighteen years ago)

Jesus, you're a medical miracle.

Small scar from chickenpox, between my two eyes.

I also have one of these.

I've got a small, thin scar on the back of my right hand and two really horrible puckered scars on my left knee from when I walked through a plate glass window when I was 12. I was in the Gaeltacht in Donegal, and the local doctor had just gone on his holidays that day, the locum wasn't arriving the next day, and the nearest doctor was in Falcarragh, which was miles away. So my friend ran and got the vet, who came and stitched my leg. I was laughing hysterically, and my brother told me to stop or people would think I wasn't hurt, despite the fact that I was bleeding all over the floor from three massive deep cuts.

When the vet came, his bedside manner consisted of saying "I don't care how much you scream, just don't move".

The stitches fell out three days later, hence huge ugly scars.

accentmonkey, Sunday, 15 April 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

pogoing to Belle and Sebastian

!

onimo, Sunday, 15 April 2007 11:14 (eighteen years ago)

I've got a big scar on my elbow from when the doctors tried and failed to fix it after I broke it into lots of small pieces when I was 6. It has a weird mole/freckle thing on it from where the pin they'd put in to secure the bones decided to leave of its own accord and popped right through my skin one morning when I was eating breakfast.

onimo, Sunday, 15 April 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)

Small scar from chickenpox, between my two eyes.

I also have one of these.

me too!

I also have about an inch on my knee, scraped it as a kid, and another tiny one on my left upper arm as a result of TB vaccination.

Roz, Sunday, 15 April 2007 11:26 (eighteen years ago)

A lot of scars on my poor poor heart.

nathalie, Sunday, 15 April 2007 11:53 (eighteen years ago)

I've got pockmarks on my forehead and temple, but not between the eyes.

I got about an inch on my right forearm from when this psycho pulled out a razor in a moshpit (fortunately I was wearing leather or it would have been much wors) and several inches worth of surgical scar hidden in my pubes.

Oilyrags, Sunday, 15 April 2007 12:01 (eighteen years ago)

I've got shingle scars round my waist as well. I forget about them though.

ailsa, Sunday, 15 April 2007 12:03 (eighteen years ago)

Stretch marks (due to rapid weight loss, not pregnancy). I don't mind'em that much.

nathalie, Sunday, 15 April 2007 12:11 (eighteen years ago)

This has got to be a picture thread, no?

Mark C, Sunday, 15 April 2007 12:19 (eighteen years ago)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/biondino/knee.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v222/biondino/chin.jpg

The knee one is from a nasty bike accident 13 summers ago (probably exacerbated by the wound getting infected); the chin ones are probably from when I put my front teeth through my bottom lip when I was 2 or 3 - I have no memory of this.

Mark C, Sunday, 15 April 2007 12:25 (eighteen years ago)

I have a very small scar beneath my bottom lip from exactly the same thing done when I was also about 2 or 3!

ENBB, Sunday, 15 April 2007 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

three vertical lines on my forehead from separate running into doors/walls when i was seven or so (before i got glasses, tellingly).

one other forehead scar from coin thrown by brother in a spelling disagreement.

one on each knee, cycling (left) football (right).

large scar on left knee (below other) from a cupboard door handle.

thumb knuckle from hurling (gaelic suicidesport, not US vomiting)

left elbow from sharp rock thrown by (another) brother.

left shin from collision with (another) brother, who was on a bike.

think that's it. no pictures, i'm very hairy in most of these places.

darraghmac, Sunday, 15 April 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

From most noticeable to least:

- long scar down left arm over elbow from surgery after I shattered my elbow in 2002. I broke my wrist at the same time and have three small scars from the pins on my left wrist/arm.

- smaller scar across left shoulder blade from when I had surgery to remove a lipoma from my back

- very faded scar on right hand middle finger from cutting it while hanging up my coat in my locker in junior high. (locker had exposed, sharp metal hanging down from shelf above hook - I assume this was not a deliberate flaw)

Sara R-C, Sunday, 15 April 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

One on my forehead from when I ran through a window age 4, only noticeable when I overheat and it starts throbbing.

One on the side of my head (above the hairline) from when I was clearing out a cellar, pulled something backwards and impaled myself on the blunt end of a nail sticking out of a ceiling beam.

One on my thumb from when I was cutting plasterboard with a Stanley knife and missed a stroke. The scar stops at my thumbnail, the knife didn't - in fact it went right through the nail. That one hurt.

Matt #2, Sunday, 15 April 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

mine are all small and stupid

Left thumb, there's a scar running down 2/3 of the side where I cut myself with an exacto knife in an art class

right hand, scar running across middle/index finger where I got cut by a pica ruler, required ten stitches or something. (pica ruler is a metal ruler with a half moon shape on the end, used for layouts. friend was scraping it on countertop during newspaper production, I reached over and grabbed it, he yanked, ouch)

numerous smaller oneson arms, hands, shins where I've just been clumsy tearing down walls and stuff

milo z, Sunday, 15 April 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

I've got a small one that cuts through my right eyebrow. I was three and jumping on my bed, when I smacked my head on the windowsill. Scared the hell out of my mom's cousin, who was babysitting at the time.

Weird thing is, she was in a car accident a few years later, which left her in a coma for a month. She functions relatively well now, but tends to forget things that happened before the accident. So every time I see her (once every few years), she says, "Something happened to your head... Are you okay?" And then I feel guilty and relay the story and apologize profusely.

lindseykai, Sunday, 15 April 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

when I was 10 or so I was at summer camp, playing ping pong when they rang the lunch bell and all the kids started running...I got to the door of the place where the ping pong table was at the same time as some girl, and I looked over at her and as we both tried to get through at once, I didn't notice I'd moved a bit to the right. The door was the kind that had glass panels to the left and right of it, so while running I smashed my right arm through the glass panel, which apparently didn't do much damage, but since I was running fast, I also pulled my right arm back through said panel, which did a decent amount of damage. I looked at the wound and must've fainted or gone into shock...the next thing I remember some counselors were carrying me to the nurse's office or hut or whatever it was at summer camp, where they wrapped me up and got me in a van to a local hospital. It left a small 1" scar on the back of my hand, 2 1/2" scars on the thumb side of my lower arm, and a thicker more serious scar on the pinky side of my arm. What was scarry is that you can tell I was turning my arm as I pulled it through the glass and if I went any further it would've gone right through my wrists.

I also have a small pock-mark near my left eye from getting Impetigo a few years ago. I had been really sick, so my immune system was way down, was really busy, and must've leaned my head on a subway door or something.

dan selzer, Sunday, 15 April 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

-A dark black one on my right knee from when a girl in 7th grade stabbed me with a pencil.

-A few gray spots on the left knee from falling in the gravel in a super-soaker fight, age 5.

-Big but faint one on my left elbow from rubbing it against the bed frame the first time I had sex with my now ex-girlfriend.

-Stretch marks all over my legs that only show up under fluorescent lights, a result of growing a foot, almost entirely in the legs, in only one year.

-And my favorite, a deep, fingerprint-changing, two-inch-long scar on my left thumb I got by slicing into it with a chisel while carving the bracing for my guitar.

Incidentally, the scar game is my very favorite to play with a new significant other.

6 inch scar across left hip - hip replacement!

admrl, Sunday, 15 April 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

A few on my arms from stubbing out cigarettes on them.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 15 April 2007 18:42 (eighteen years ago)

-one on my forehead, from when I was 7 and stumbled while running, and fell head first into some pointy stones
-two on my nose, respectively from when someone threw a beer bottle at me and i was too late catching it, and from prom night, when i tried to climb some stairs while holding drinks, wearing high heels and being drunk
-One on my left hip, from when a friend jumped on top of me, and I fell down into a pile of glass
-one on my right shin, from when another friend jumped on me and I fell into some chairs
-a few on my hands, because I can't handle anything sharp
I'm clumsy :(

Gaia1981, Sunday, 15 April 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

two in my chest from very nearly fatal stabbing 14 years ago, then nice big scars in the middle of my chest and on my side from subsequent open heart and lung and collapsed lung surgeries.

Mike McGooney-gal, Sunday, 15 April 2007 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

My favorite is one on my lower lip where a kitten bit me really hard while I slept.

I also have matching scars at the top center of each foot from two different bike accidents, which look like POST-STIGMATA MADNESS.

Others are too numerous to mention.

Abbott, Sunday, 15 April 2007 19:07 (eighteen years ago)

Left hand-- one from a frying pan on my middle knuckle, two from little stabs from pencils on my pinkie, one on my middle finger from a curling iron that was apparently on, one on my pointer knuckle from watching TV and using a box cutter at the same time. My right hand is perfect, however. There's one on my nose where a baseball hit my glasses and smashed the bridge through my skin, if I remember correctly.

My best scar story is the two twin scars on my right arm though. Once I got a little leech on my arm at camp, because some fellow coworkers and I were up near a lake that was prohibited (turned out it was because there was a grow-op there, we wanted to go see if it was still there, as these same coworkers had busted the place the year before. turns out their penchant for vandalism greatly eclipsed their interest in drugs). It was full of leeches. I was the only one who got a leech. They salted the fucker, and it wouldn't come off. Then they tried burning it, and they burned me. Scar one. Then they tried to salt it again, no dice, so they ripped it off. Scar two.

That's my best scar story.

Will M., Sunday, 15 April 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

A tiangular shaped mark where the hair grows from large folicles in my left thigh where, as a toddler, I pulled the cord of a hot iron, where it fell down onto my leg. Accidentily.

I also have a white line scar across/under my right elbow from the scratch where Derren Phillips pushed me back into a spiky bush at high school in 1986. It bled and bled all during double biology that afernoon.

DavidM, Sunday, 15 April 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

- one under my right eye from a dog biting me
- one on my right ring finger knuckle from minor surgery
- two on my left knee from being scratched by a FERRET
- one on my right ankle, tipsy accident where the details are foggy, resulted in a chunk of a tattoo disappearing
- many all over my arms because i'm an idiot
- one on my lip from drunkenly tripping over a cat and catapulting face first into the bathroom sink
- one on my left eyebrow from the above mentioned sink incident
- one on the center of my chest. i've had it all my life that i can remember, and no one in my family seems to recall how it got there so i've always assumed it was another incident with a dog

there are some more that appear to be turning into scars so if they don't fade i'll maybe update, some day.

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Sunday, 15 April 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)

when I fell through the floor of the Usher Hall while pogoing to Belle and Sebastian

you did what, doing what?

me: tiny one on my chin from when i fell weedily off a weedy four-foot wall as a weedy kid; 1cm on the furthest-right knuckle of my right hand from punching a mirror like some kind of tool.

my dad has a scar that's more than half the length of his leg, related to a very unpleasant motorcycle accident and the subsequent insertion and removal of great big bits of metal (some of which he fashioned into handles etc, much to the revulsion of squeamish colleagues).

grimly fiendish, Sunday, 15 April 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

Fucking ferrets!

Abbott, Sunday, 15 April 2007 22:33 (eighteen years ago)

5 – Joined the chicken-pox-scar-between-the-eyes-club.

7 - I was camping and went to the toilet in the bush. I spotted a huge spider, ran off in fright with my pants still half down and tripped over a log. Horizontal scar on my right hip and long thin scar above my right knee.

10 - Cross-shaped scar on right instep from kicking my bare foot through a glass panel in our front door when my sister locked me out of the house.

11 - I threw a tennis trainer (heavy block with ball on elastic attached to it) up into a cupboard above my head because I was too lazy to get the stepladder. Of course it fell back out and split the top of my head open, requiring 8 stitches.

14 – Round scar on right pinky from some dickhead at school accidentally kicking me in the finger.

19 - Slid down the banister at the train station after a pub crawl, fell backwards and cracked the back of my head. There was blood everywhere and I drew a crowd. Scored myself an ambulance ride to emergency where I had to wait a few hours to sober up before they would give me anesthetic and stitches.

20 - I tried to jump a wide cement drain with a glass in my hand, while being chased by someone trying to whip me with a beach pine branch. My toes just caught the square brick edge and ripped open on the way down, along with my knee. The scar looks like a claw mark.

23 – Scar on side of left hand from trying to cut through plastic-wrapped celery with a Wiltshire knife instead of using scissors.

24 – Round scar on top of right toe from slipping on dropped ice cubes. My foot was rammed straight into a piece of sharp metal under the fridge. Managed to slice through half my toenail too.

I have mercifully remained injury-free for the last few years, touch wood.

Hard like armour, Monday, 16 April 2007 02:04 (eighteen years ago)

8-inch scar across my lower left back from kidney surgeries.
1-inch scar directly below that from some sort of drainage tube.
Ragged scars on my knees from repeated falls off my bike as a kid.
Various small burn and knife scars on my forearms and hands from my cooking career.

dan m, Monday, 16 April 2007 03:05 (eighteen years ago)

one inch-long gash on the inner part of my left arm from wrestling with a dalmation in 1992.

one half-inch gash right next to my left eye from breakdancing all whiskey'd up and landing on my face at the 2002 san diego comic con (also broke my collarbone with that one).

one two-inch surgery scar on my right palm to stitch up the tendon that got severed when i was framing pictures in 2005 and a sheet of glass broke under my grip and stabbed me in the base of my middle finger.

iiiijjjj, Monday, 16 April 2007 03:09 (eighteen years ago)

mitya, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:31 (eighteen years ago)

Two on my left knee. A small one from when i fell while skating and a rock ripped my jeans + knee. A few years later, i almost got run over while cycling, fell down on what was probably THE only rock on the street, busted my kneecap, ligaments and got 11 stitches on my knee which have left a very ugly scar, just above the other one.
A small scar on the index of my left hand from slicing my finger rather than meat when i was about seven;
A scar just above my lip from getting punched a week or two ago. I fear this scar will end up looking very ugly.

Jibe, Monday, 16 April 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

Is there a sub-thread about scars inflicted by other ILXors? I have a small comma-shaped scar on the palm of my right hand where Madchen's fingernail ripped out a chunk of flesh, which she then had to extract from under said fingernail. I then bled all over her. Lovely.

Mark C, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:13 (eighteen years ago)

- one about an inch long on my left kneecap that i got when i was about 9. i jumped off the swing set, fell and landed on some mysterious piece of rusty metal.

- four 2" scars on my abdomen: one in navel, two on right side of stomach, and one under the sternum. all from having my gallbladder removed.

homosexual II, Monday, 16 April 2007 12:49 (eighteen years ago)

i've got a ton of them but the only two that i remember the cause is the two inch incision just below my belt line on the right side of my abdomen from an apendectomy when i was 10 and a scar on my face when i was bit by something in the storage space of an apartment me and my ex used to share. we were moving in and i needed to move a pallet from one storage locker thingy to the next and when i was moving it i felt this stinging sensation on my cheek followed by an INSANE burning. within 5 minutes my face was swollen twice it's normal size. it was somewhat swollen for about two months. jen thought it was hilarious and still laughs at the scar when i see her.

chicago kevin, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:25 (eighteen years ago)

Small scar from chickenpox, between my two eyes.

I also have one of these.

Yup me too.

Other things, a couple of knife marks on my arm from when i was drunk at a camp fire party, got a bit 'handy' with someones hunting knife.

nail on finger, refuses to grow properly since getting caught in chain crank on bike at age of 7.

big toe nail also refuses to grow straight since as a kid had in growing toenail that was yanked off.

nothing really 'hard' like Quint off Jaws.

Ste, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

I have a scar on the back of my left hand from a "sword fight" with ball point pens in first grade. I have a scar on by bottom lip from a Ministry pit -- boot in face. I have a scar on my right foot from dropping a highball glass on it. I can't remember any more.

kenan, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

I have scars on my liver, but you can guess the story there. :(

kenan, Monday, 16 April 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

when I was 11, a couple of friends and I cut through someone's yard while exiting the woods. a huge great dane came bounding out of the house. my friends cut across a busy highway that ran alongside the yard, narrowly escaping getting hit by cars. I thought I'd take my chances with the dog. he easily overtook me, bringing me down by clamping onto my right arm. the owner appeared and called him off. she didn't bother to make sure I wasn't bleeding to death after being mauled by her dog. asshole. my friends made helpful comments on the long walk home, like "dude there's a vein hanging out of the back of your arm!"

since the dog got me at an angle, I had 3 puncture wounds where one upper and both lower canine teeth went through my upper arm. a couple of weeks later at a follow-up, a doctor took a thin wooden stick with a cotton swab at the end of it, dipped it in alcohol, and started gently cleaning one of the wounds. without warning he plunged it through the scab and started working it around in a circular motion while all sorts of wonderful goo poured out of horrified me. worst thing was sitting still as he did the same on the second set of puncture wounds.

I have another scar story that involves a rambo hunting knife and someone pooping on a paper plate but maybe we'll save that for another time...

Edward III, Monday, 16 April 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

I have one just above my lip from this psychotic cat my parents used to have who scratched me when I was about 5. And there's one on my forehead from the time when, at age 3, I climbed onto the top of my parents' piano and fell headfirst into a glass jar filled with pennies.
