A woman at work, who thankfully I have nothing to do with on a day-to-day basis, is the most disgustingly wet talker I have ever heard speak. Quiet voice + damp mouth = awful, awful smacking popping damp mouth noise.

we need IRL noise gate

I eat a little piggish.
What bothers me is people who sniff or snort arbitrarily.

My neighbor has some kind of throat "tic" where it sounds like he's always swallowing. It annoys me, but I only see him once in awhile (like yesterday, for HOC meeting).

Dude I work with makes little popping noises all the time. Sort of reminiscent of the Road Runner sound, from the cartoon, if you know what I mean. Heath Ledger's Joker had me licking my lips a lot, or at least thinking about it.

LOL at the idea of a thread about mouth noise.

Mouth sounds are more of a problem when doing voiceovers but can be a problem on set as well. Water helps. Always make sure that all talent has easy access to water as they shoot scenes. Depending on the person, water alone may not remedy "sticky" mouth. One of the best solutions for sticky mouth is, believe it or not, green (Granny Smith) apple slices. The acidity and sugar content balance of this particular variety tends to stabilize the saliva and make it so that mouth clicking and smacking is reduced or eliminated. I work with several VO talents who have been using this method for years and swear by it. It works.

have people seen the mumblecore thing 'kissing on the mouth'? if not, i envy you but a character in it was doing an art project asking people to make noises with their mouth and recording it. i found it incredibly frustrating cuz everyone he asked made noises with their VOICE though he didnt seem to care abt the difference and was just being a wonky art douche.
