ts: very effective genre exercise vs. intolerable, stupid campfest that shits on Joan Crawford and ended Faye Dunaway's career...

hm...

kenan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

xpost, aw that poor little monkey.

Ms Misery, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

it wasn't TOTALLY over, she still had Barfly to look forward to!

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

kenan, you shit, i'm not asking about the movies, i'm asking DIRTY PILLOWS vs WIRE HANGERS

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

xpost true, true.

kenan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

That exact picture (of the sad little monkey crouching on its cloth and wire "mommy") is in my sociology book - I was looking at that last night. So, SO sad.

And Carrie is the better movie, but I'm totally guilty of using wire hangers at my house, so...

Sara R-C, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

i always get wire hangers from the cleaners, so there's nothing to be done about them. Not my favorite, but better than... dirty pillows... I guess... You know, you can air out your pillows and wash their covers and they are no longer dirty.

kenan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

I love my dirty pillows.

wire hangers on the other hand must go. . . to G's side of the closet. He doesn't really care.

can't perform an abortion with dirty pillows

milo z, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

can't rest your head on a wire hanger

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:49 (eighteen years ago)

the dirtiness of a pillow is a temporary condition, whereas the wireness of a hanger is immutable.

kenan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:51 (eighteen years ago)

washing dirty pillows is half the fun

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

A wire hanger may be immutably wire, but it is not immutably a hanger. It's bendy, see.

elmo argonaut, Thursday, 19 April 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

a fine point

kenan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

Why are wire hangers bad? I've never understood this.

The Yellow Kid, Thursday, 19 April 2007 19:54 (eighteen years ago)

they're not very sturdy, don't hold the shape of your clothes and are all but useless for heavy things, and they put nasty creases in pants, unless they have that cardboard tube, which always bends or breaks in half sooner rather than later. To sum up: they are cheap.

kenan, Thursday, 19 April 2007 19:56 (eighteen years ago)

dirty pillows >>>> wire hangers

but

joan crawford >>>> margaret white

tokyo rosemary, Thursday, 19 April 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

Who gets beaten with dirty pillows these days?

Eric H., Friday, 20 April 2007 02:37 (eighteen years ago)

Is 'wire hangers' a euphemism for something that I just don't get? Because at the moment breasts are totally winning.

emil.y, Friday, 20 April 2007 11:58 (eighteen years ago)

My Dad has a song about how the decline of civilisation is due to the lack of wire hangers and free matches. I thought it was a euphemism, but no, he means wire hangers, coz they're so useful for unblocking drains and getting your keys out of a locked car etc.

That said, I love pillows. And Carrie is a great movie.

Masonic Boom, Friday, 20 April 2007 12:01 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...

wow Mommie Dearest was really bad.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:06 (eighteen years ago)

why do you think the gayz love it? (Faye D agrees w/ you; I've never seen it)

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

The DVD commentary track is by John Waters!

tokyo rosemary, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:11 (eighteen years ago)

oh the camp factor is really obvious - its all overblown melodrama with lots of bad acting and the only decent actress (Dunaway) in it plays every scene as an over-the-top grotesque. I did laugh at a fair amount of it (the rose-trimming at night scene, any scene where she beats or berates her children, the scene where she tells the Pepsi Co executives "don't FUCK with me")

The film instantly reminded me of Waters, tho I didn't know he did the commentary - maybe I'll check that out tonight.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:12 (eighteen years ago)

I always see the word Barfly as an adverb.

Mark C, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

oh my god I have to own this now, only for the John Waters commentary.

jessie monster, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:17 (eighteen years ago)

"Dirty pillows" sounds like a metaphor for lactating breasts.

libcrypt, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

they're called breasts, momma, and every woman has them

elmo argonaut, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 17:57 (eighteen years ago)

I DIDN'T SIN, MAMA!

kenan, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

Surmounter, Tuesday, 29 May 2007 18:57 (eighteen years ago)

Waters' Mommie Dearest commentary is a riot - he's one of those guys I just like to hear ramble about anything.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 30 May 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

("I'm surprised she's even willing to walk on the beach - doesn't she realize sand is just DIRT?")
