Speaking of parties, Nick's bday is May 15th. We should do something.

KitCat, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:20 (eighteen years ago)

Mine is May 12th!

Brunch this weekend! Sayjal's play tonight! I will be done with law skoo forever by Jesse's birthday!

Jenny, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:21 (eighteen years ago)

We should start a new thread every 100 messages just to piss them off.

-- kenan, Thursday, April 19, 2007 11:51 PM (Yesterday)

Well, we unintentionally accomplished this....

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

I am missing a birthday party AND graduation party? THIS BLOWS.

In other news if anyone wants to see The Thing join us at the Hideout tonight.

Jenny, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:22 (eighteen years ago)

I want to rename this thread "An Otter Named Thanatos"

WHOA!!XPOST!!!!!

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

FREAKY!

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:24 (eighteen years ago)

'Sup.

http://www.fws.gov/littlependoreille/Otter.JPG

Jenny, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

In early mythological accounts, Thanatos was perceived as a powerful figure armed with a sword, with a shaggy beard and a fierce face. His coming was marked by pain and grief. In later eras, as the transition from life to death in Elysium became a more attractive option, Thanatos came to be seen as a sea otter who brought delicious mussels and clams to parties.

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

In other news if anyone wants to see The Thing join us at the Hideout tonight.

This sounds kind of fun. However, I only slept like 4 hours last night. So it probably won't happen.

I'm going to jump back to the evil Chicago thread to complain about something.

n/a, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

Well, off to edit on Wikipedia's "Thanatos" page....

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

¿QUE?

http://www.eco-pros.com/images/WaterDwellers/Photos/44150_OTTER%20SPOT.JPG

Jenny, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

Ha ha-- I like splitting into Chicago Light and Chicago Dark.

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

Otters have been my favorite animal since like forever, so I appreciate the flood of photos. I think -- honestly -- but otters were the first thing I ever did an image search for.

La Lechera, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

Otters are fine, but they're no sloths.

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

I, too, have an abiding love of otters. We have been watching the Planet Earth series on the Discovery channel and there were some river otters giving a big old crocodile the business and OMG CUET and now otters are my new sloths.

Jenny, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

Dude, river otters will gang up and fuck with a crocodile. They would totally ruin a sloths day.

Wait, should we take this to the other thread?

Jenny, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

ps i am not talking about butt otters. just regular ones. i don't know where that 'but' came from.

La Lechera, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

are you referring to Mats Gustafsson's The Thing in that earlier post? Man, I wish I could see that! If only it was NEXT Friday instead.

stingy, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:33 (eighteen years ago)

YES I AM!

La Lechera, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:33 (eighteen years ago)

Stingy when do you get into town?

Jenny, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:33 (eighteen years ago)

Ok I go to work now, but I want you to know that thanks to otters, I am in GOOD MOOD. That, and sunshine.

La Lechera, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

butt otters? wrong thread, ma'am. allow me to direct you to the "i have, like, no gay friends in this town" thread. there is a lot of talk of otters there, and it's safe to presume they are of the butt persuasion.

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

jenny and courtney and i are going to a show at 2nd city's 2nd stage tonight. our friend sayjal produced it and is starring in it.

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

I wish the Hideout had a mailing list or rss feed. I never know about their shows early enough to plan. I hate having to wade through poorly designed websites. I just want the content delivered to me.

Jeff, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:38 (eighteen years ago)

I tried to deliver it to you a couple of weeks ago! They're playing tomorrow night too, if you can't make it tonight. It's just that we're going to be there tonight, and well, I dunno. Could be fun.

La Lechera, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

Anyway. To work.

La Lechera, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

next Thursday at some point in the day. I forget. Afternoon. I'm bummed that I'll be missing the last night of Super Trivia here, but I guess I didn't think my team would still be in contention. We tied for the best score last night, with rounds about River & Joaquin Phoenix, The Simpsons, and a round where you had to guess the top 10 US retailers in terms of sales, AND put them in order (that was really tough).

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have a blast up in Chi-town. I noticed that the head dude from Tigersushi records is going to be playing Emtpy Bottle on Sunday, along with that Brightblack show on Friday. Plus I hope the Bulls are still in the playoffs (although they really hurt themselves losing that last game vs New Jersey).

stingy, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:40 (eighteen years ago)

Guys I really really love the new album by the National, which is called "Boxer." It's just, you know, kinda mellow sad bastard indie rock but with nice low vocals and a neato drum sound and good songs that aren't too long. More "subtle" than the music I usually love but hey it's really good, take my word for it.

n/a, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)

KEnny just said something new! He's in his cage chattering away and he said, "blah blah blah blah blah."

Jesse, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:46 (eighteen years ago)

Punch him.

Jenny, Friday, 20 April 2007 13:50 (eighteen years ago)

I was just looking at the Hideout's website. It says that tonight there will be DJ sets by Mats Gustafsson ,Paal Nilssen-Love, and John Corbett. Is this the same John Corbett from Sex and the City and Northern Exposure?? That would be really odd. The dude does have an album though. Check this:

http://ec1.images-amazon.com/images/P/B000E5KTZW.01._SCLZZZZZZZ_SS500_.jpg

stingy, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:14 (eighteen years ago)

Ha ha, what a dork. Can you imagine the photoshoot for that album cover? John Corbett wildly thrashing around with his guitar in a field somewhere.

n/a, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:15 (eighteen years ago)

psh, look at you guys, stealin DC's otters

pretzel walrus, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)

(actually - not sure yet, but i might be swinging into yr burg in early august for a conference, in which case brodowns should totally happen)

pretzel walrus, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:16 (eighteen years ago)

Amazon also suggests that I buy his album alongside Toby Keith's "White Trash with Money."

stingy, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

I thought it was weird when I saw Kenny again just for a second the other day, and he immediately made a sound that I taught him. Little dude is creepy smart.

kenan, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

Ok, it looks like it must be [Removed Illegal Link] John Corbett instead, bummer.

stingy, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

crud. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Corbett_(writer)

stingy, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

Can you imagine the photoshoot for that album cover?

I just did, and it made me lol.

kenan, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:25 (eighteen years ago)

Kenny kinda freaks me out. It's the cold, cold eyes.

Jordan, Friday, 20 April 2007 14:28 (eighteen years ago)

Kenan, fuck you, you are not overweight.

Don't get me wrong, I am no oppressed minority, but believe me when I say that I have had too much beer and pizza and could look a lot better naked if I really wanted to.

kenan, Friday, 4 May 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

I am pretty cuddly, though. :) Maybe that's its own reward.

kenan, Friday, 4 May 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

If you're not the one to point it out, then don't.

XP: I think we're going to have different "caution" areas in this discussion partly also because of the geographic thing -- I do remember that I'm sort of shocked when I go home at how many people are...bigger than I expect. It's not like that here; not that everyone is model-material by any means, but that there's almost none of a certain kind of unhealthy-seeming...bloatedness. There are women with A LOT OF WOMAN packed solidly into some T&A, but that's as far as it normally goes.

Laurel, Friday, 4 May 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

That's why NYC suxxx.

n/a, Friday, 4 May 2007 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

i've got sun dresses on my mind again.

chicago kevin, Friday, 4 May 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

Well, if you don't want to see fat people luxuriating in their bloatedness and using healthy, average models as a justification for that second half-gallon of Hudsonville, I'd say NYC is a GREAT place to be!

Laurel, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

Hahha oh man I regret that post already.

Laurel, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:01 (eighteen years ago)

My grandfathers were farmers. I got farming in my genes. I was built to work in a field all day. So when I guy like me gets a desk job...

Any time I've lived in a city with more hills than Chicago, I've lost a good 20-30 pounds fairly rapidly.

All that said, it's something I'm else self-conscious of as an adult than I was as a teenager, my blood pressure and cholesterol and all are excellent. Sure, I'd like to be in better shape.

Eazy, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:08 (eighteen years ago)

But I'm also good with money and Nutty Bars are a quarter.

Eazy, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

but that there's almost none of a certain kind of unhealthy-seeming... bloatedness

oh man, I'm from Houston, don't talk about unhealthy-seeming bloatedness. I thought that when I moved to Chicago I was going to see a bunch of great big fat people, because Chicago has that sausage-eating rep, but I tell you true, it's NOTHING like it is back home. Sausage-eating is no competition for DRIVING.

kenan, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:09 (eighteen years ago)

I realized I needed to eat my snack. Apple consumed. Check.

KitCat, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

You know that stock footage of enormous people walking down the street, with their heads just out of frame? That was all shot in Houston.

kenan, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

Laurel, as I've mentioned before, I have a fondness for NYC, but every time I visit at some point it makes me feel fat and poor and unglamorous. I can't imagine having to deal with that pressure all the time.

KitCat, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I'm lucky that my parents didn't give me any pressure about weight. When I wanted to diet in 8th grade (puberty weight! OH NOES!), my mom was adamantly opposed.

KitCat, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

this is one time my general apathy/antipathy works for me. i just don't give a shit what other people think about me.

chicago kevin, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:20 (eighteen years ago)

Nick is like that. I mean, he's always telling me I care too much about what other people think.

KitCat, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:28 (eighteen years ago)

Some friends of mine did a Television cover set for this CBGB themed night they had at Cat's Cradle a few years ago. other performers were Richard Hell, Johnny Thunders & the Heartbreakers, and the Ramones. It was fun.

stingy, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

I deal with the "poor" and "fat" in basically the same way, Sarah, which is to focus on picking up skills & capabilities & being equal to any situation in composure. As long as my body is strong and capable and enables me to live and have fun and learn things, it's good enough for me (if not necc for anyone else). And as long as my composure and confidence are enough to make me seem gracious & collected in a variety of situations, people who judge my financial status can go fuck themselves. Etc. There's a little reverse snobbery, mixed with a little exhaustion from having worn myself out giving a fuck and just not having time for it anymore, mixed with a few grains of ACTUAL patience & tolerance for the diversity of human experience. You try, y'know? :D

Laurel, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:32 (eighteen years ago)

I want to know where these people get their kittens. Surely the number of kittens needed for all these internet pictures exceeds the number of available caretakers for grown cats.

dan m, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

Also, I want a dog.

dan m, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

THEY ARE ALL THE SAME KITTEN, DAN. Photoshop miracles.

Laurel, Friday, 4 May 2007 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

i want a hot dog.
