Why is there a US version of "the Thick of It"?

Just began watching torrents of this and enjoy it quite a bit. However, when I looked it up on imdb, I discovered an Americanized version is already in the works. Initially, I was annoyed at the possibility of an inferior rehash but quickly noticed that the man at the helm is Mitchell Hurwitz (of Arrested Development fame). So now feelings are mixed. Armando Iannucci will also be executive producing (I assume a la Ricky Gervais and the American Office) so there's even more potential there.

Oh, and P.S. Christopher Guest is evidently directing. This has either positive or disasterous potential depending on your present feelings about the state of all his movies.

Thoughts?

It'll be crap. The Thick Of It rules.

Iannucci will have a much more hands-on role in this remake. It stars Michael McKean, incidentally. I love the original "Thick of It." I also love the U.S. "Office," you know?

Also, very excited for U.S. "Saxondale," so that might show my level of delusion or whatever.

Will they be able to find any US based child rapists to star in it?
