Ronan, Monday, 23 April 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

Ben Foster.

Kevin Davies? Dawson? Kevin Doyle? Lita? gotta have some Reading in there anyway.

You can tell I haven't watched much football this year.

Dr.C, Monday, 23 April 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

Arteta?

Dr.C, Monday, 23 April 2007 09:58 (eighteen years ago)

berbatov's a shoe in. i dont know about mccarthy, has he really been that great? im tempted by anelka instead, though ive seen less bolton than blackburn this year

600, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:01 (eighteen years ago)

midfield i dunno! bentley has looked v good. arteta seems to have been involved a lot but i never really fancy watching everton

600, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:03 (eighteen years ago)

We're not ultra-boring crap bunglers anymore, 600.

Lescott & Arteta. Sod the rest.

Michael Jones, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:07 (eighteen years ago)

David James in goal?

ken c, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:09 (eighteen years ago)

David James is one of those footballers who, no matter what he ever does, I refuse to believe is actually any good.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:10 (eighteen years ago)

Did you see him yesterday?

Dr.C, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

No, Foster. James on the bench along with Antii Niemi, if we're allowed a World Cup-sized squad.

Mark C, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

upfront: tevez, berbatov

ken c, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:12 (eighteen years ago)

Did you see him yesterday?

Yeah, and I've seen him keep Liverpool, Citeh, and Pompey in innumerable games over the years, but there's still this switch in my head that won't process it.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

Bouazza in the squad?

That Aston Villa geezer Aglonabhor or whatever he's called?

Dr.C, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:14 (eighteen years ago)

defence:

ryan taylor-steven taylor-andrew taylor-matty taylor

600, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

midfield: lennon, arteta, nolan, pederson

ken c, Monday, 23 April 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

don't get the Foster hype at all, Brad Friedel is so much better. have been impressed by Seol at Reading though, good crosser.

zappi, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:28 (eighteen years ago)

GK: Friedel
D: M Richards, Dawson, Woodgate, Taylor
M: Lennon, Arteta, Sidwell, Barry
F: Berbatov, McCarthy

Bench: Foster, Primus, Huddlestone, Martins, Lita

Matt DC, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:46 (eighteen years ago)

I can't believe I forgot Robbie Keane, he's on the bench instead of Lita, who's still in the squad. Honorable mentions for Bentley, Stephen Taylor and Tal Ben Haim maybe, but Bolton have been tonked a couple of times.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:53 (eighteen years ago)

Nick Shorey from Reading has the most assists from a defender in the Prem, i believe. Arteta and Lescott have been huge for Everton. Matt Taylor at Portsmouth? Always seems to be scoring goals.

just had a look at the Actim stats team of the season, which has Lescott, Arteta, Barry and Hahnemann from Reading in its non-top 4 contingent. mind you, they have Diouf as 5th best striker this season, so...

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:53 (eighteen years ago)

Number five on the charts, number one in our hearts.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 23 April 2007 11:56 (eighteen years ago)

so this the the Actim non-top 4 best XI, 4-4-2 stylee:

Hahnemann M
Taylor M
Shorey N
Lescott J
Campo I
O'Neil G
Barry G
Arteta M
Neville P
Johnson A
Berbatov D

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 23 April 2007 12:02 (eighteen years ago)

Has Andy Johnson actually done that well? Good start to the season but pretty underwhelming from then on surely. Campo might make my squad, perhaps.

Matt DC, Monday, 23 April 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

Johnson had that barren spell after Cahill got injured the first time, but either side of that he's been good. i think i would still go for Benni ahead of him, though. Benni and Berbatov both candidates for signings of the season.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 23 April 2007 12:29 (eighteen years ago)

Johnson's contribution has been more than just the goals he's scored but Berbatov certainly has the edge. No mentions of Tim Howard so far? No one outside the top four could've conceded fewer goals than him, but I guess that's as much down to Lescott, Yobo & Stubbs. He did have that spell just before Xmas where he was getting beaten by 30-yard screamers every match and that never looks good for the keeper.
