My point is, though, I mean this is a horrible cast which makes no sense whatsoever together. Elijah Woods is a terrible leading man, he's freaky looking and Franka looks about 20 years older than him - and MANDY MOORE?
Pete = Bongwater fan.
You've Got Mail sucked bigtime tho'.

Sample line of dialogue: "You just like HER because SHE'S really SMART and I'M just STREETWISE!"
― Douglas, Wednesday, 20 February 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)
I somewhat liked that film, less in a film sense than in the sense it was obviously intended, which was to set Downey loose on character- improv versus two actresses who provided nice scenery but were resolutely not skilled enough to actually crowd out the scenes. Which was utterly in-character, given that the story is initially meant to present them as actually like that, these minimized women drawn to the oversized space-filling of RDJ. And then it all just goes entertainingly actor's-studio "let's hash out who these characters are," which is sort of shoddily pleasant if you remember to take it as an excercise and not a product.
Plus: best-executed sex scene maybe ever.

Thank God "Lord of the Rings" came out first, else Elijah would drown in teen-comedy hell.
Oh dude you know I would be so there.
Anyway, a romantic comedy w/Elijah Wood would be offputting because he looks like a cat, and I don't want to watch cats getting it on. Sure, you think it would be funny to watch Mandy Moore make out with a cat, but you'd be disgusted with yourself afterward.

Didn't you even like the "Elephant Man" musical? Or the whole "Hitler...or Tampon..." bit? Or...
I more than like it -- it's easily one of my favorite comedies of all time. Admittedly, I very much like all three of the principals anyway, and someone who couldn't stand (Goldblum/Thompson/Atkinson) would probably be less favorably disposed.

I can't remember anything else about it other than Emma Thompson's boobs flapping about.

(dry tone) Were Emma's mortgage payments _that_ high? The fact that I couldn't get her chest out of my head (for days) disturbed the hell out of me, too.

I'm a big fan of The Holiday (2006) (and pretty much all Nancy Myers movies outside of What Women Want) in all it's weird lumpen glory. It's one of those that is kind of baffling at first but its cozy hang out vibe can be infectious on rewatches, which is why it gets flogged on cable so much. Not familiar with The Holiday (2008) so cannot comment on that one.
More than most genres though, Rom Coms seem to provoke wildly diverse responses. I recently tried to watch Something Borrowed and hated it so so much, but then I saw on Twitter a few days later that someone I followed had started a long thread about how much they loved it.
