A week is a long time in politics!

Groke, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:01 (eighteen years ago)

I sort of forget he's there these days.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:01 (eighteen years ago)

I mean seriously, has any British prime minister of the TV era ever had as low visibility as Blair does now?

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

Related to Matt's point - did anyone else hear John Major on the news talking about Yeltsin and have an "Oh god I know that voice - who IS that". When was the last time you even heard him MENTIONED? (not Yelstin).

This has 0 to do with Blair, sorry Enrique.

Groke, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:04 (eighteen years ago)

he's done what he's done, shame he had to use the labour movement to do it.

acrobat, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:07 (eighteen years ago)

Received wisdom says 'Ten years? Should've done much, much more'

First term - Over-cautious, can sort of see why they did it at the time
Second term - Completely dominated by international affairs really, rightly or wrongly
Third term - Oh, who cares? He's going soon

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:10 (eighteen years ago)

But thinking about it, pretty much everything that seems to be largely regarded as A Good Thing (devolution, minimum wage, independence for the Bank of England, peace in Northern Ireland) is a first-term achievement.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:12 (eighteen years ago)

hold on to your hats, i'm about to link to the guardian.

That one guy that quit, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:13 (eighteen years ago)

"independence for the Bank of England"

is that a good thing?

Historians are funny people.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:27 (eighteen years ago)

I mean seriously, has any British prime minister of the TV era ever had as low visibility as Blair does now?

well it was only a few weeks back he was being annoying with C Tate on Comic Relief, plus appearances on The Simpsons, Football Focus etc. over last few years.

blueski, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

being annoying with C Tate on Comic Relief

I may be alone, but I thought that was funny.

onimo, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

That's not quite what I meant.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

how is that score calculated Dom?

Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:54 (eighteen years ago)

Looks like marks out of 10 averaged to me!

Groke, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:55 (eighteen years ago)

in a way the home secretaries have been the focus of this government. reid is arguably the most consistently high-profile minister. i don't even know who the foreign minister is now.

That one guy that quit, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:55 (eighteen years ago)

I saw Edward Heath got outed yesterday!

Mark G, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 09:56 (eighteen years ago)

i don't even know who the foreign minister is now

Margaret Beckett. Selling ethical caravaning to the world.

onimo, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

Daily Mirror headline = Hamps-Ted Heath. Good work lads.

Matt DC, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

The late Ted Heath managed to obtain the highest office of state after he was supposedly advised to cease his cottaging activities in the 1950s when he became a privy councillor."

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 10:13 (eighteen years ago)

This is front page news yet D4vid 1cke's shocking revelation that H3ath was a "sh4pe sh1fting rept1le who s4crificed ch1ldren in sat4nic r1tuals" is all but ignored!

(g00gl3 pr00fed to avoid catching nutters)

I conked out before seeing Portillo getting the boot, an eternal regret.

Neil S, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:21 (eighteen years ago)

Clause Four? They had a couple of good singles but they were no Boyzone.

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:28 (eighteen years ago)

Is it any coincidence that Blair confirms that he is stepping down at the precise moment that Sam Allardyce takes over at Stamford Bridge I THINK NOT

Marcello Carlin, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:29 (eighteen years ago)

The last couple of years, I thought it was really funny how he consistently tried to act like he had anything to say about what's going on in Iraq, as if The Special Relationship doesn't exist.

StanM, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:34 (eighteen years ago)

yesterday's conf:

"in a few weeks..........i won't be Prime Minister........with all likelihood....the next leader of this country........will be a Scot...."

blueski, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:37 (eighteen years ago)

StanM, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

He's not leaving until he's totally ensured a Conservative victory in the next election. Gotta make daddy proud of him.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:46 (eighteen years ago)

That one guy that quit, Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:48 (eighteen years ago)
