This is the thread for Los Angeles Hotels.

I need to find somewhere cheap and reasonably comfortable for the week of 4th of July. I've stayed in a few different places on previous trips but was wondering if someone knows any hidden gems. Priority would definitely be cheapness as I am staying over a few days for apartment search. But non-sketchiness and decent location (where? depends) also desirable.

I'd love to just stay at The Secret Garden again but it's up to $125 a night and I need to save my $$$s this time around.

Check craigslist for a sublet?

hmmmm, possibly. I will look.

There's also some apartment swap site I heard about on NPR I think. You could maybe take care of someone's cat.

I had a look but we're not there for a full week, only 4-5 days, which could be tricky.

I love cats but I am allergic.

Also looking at maps of LA makes my head spin and my eyes hurt.

where do you live? if it's a desirable city an apt. swap could be very possible around a holiday.

if you want to crash at my place for a few nights, you're welcome to.

i don't have a cat.

That's very kind, but I wouldn't want to be a burden (and I can be!). Also there are two of us, obv. This all reminds me how much I HATE apartment-hunting.

admrl, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:18 (eighteen years ago)

re apartment hunting, you may want to get an account with these guys:

http://www.westsiderentals.com/

it's not free, but it comes out to roughly a dollar a day for a 2-month account.

Thanks! I did something like this in Berkeley and a lot of the people seemed to also advertise on Craigslist. But any apartment sources would be very welcome. Oh, and I don't really know where I want to live anyway.

I liked this small B&B ... it's not fancy, but it's clean and pleasant and centrally located (by Melrose & La Brea), and the owner is nice:

ooh, thanks. I like B&Bs.

admrl, Wednesday, 25 April 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

what kind of place are you looking for?

remy bean, Thursday, 26 April 2007 01:55 (eighteen years ago)

(err, in an apartment?)

remy bean, Thursday, 26 April 2007 01:55 (eighteen years ago)

I want an apartment with a washer/dryer in the building. In an interesting neighborhood. Lots of light.

Too much to ask?

admrl, Thursday, 26 April 2007 02:49 (eighteen years ago)

Actually I would sacrifice the interesting neighborhood for more space (for editing/studio), maybe. Maybe I'll live somewhere dull.

admrl, Thursday, 26 April 2007 02:52 (eighteen years ago)

I basically want the perfect apartment. And for a very low price.

admrl, Thursday, 26 April 2007 02:52 (eighteen years ago)

chk yr email
