tonight's DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES debate

Highlight so far has been former Alaska senator Mike Gravel yelling at the other seven candidates (and visibly shaking from rage) for not pulling the troops out of Iraq immediately. He also called Joe Biden arrogant for claiming to know how to run a foreign country. He seemed to really make the other candidates uncomfortable.

John Edwards told another long, boring story about how he used to be poor.

iiiijjjj, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:40 (eighteen years ago)

Tom Brokaw just asked all the candidates to raise their hands if they've ever kept a gun in their home. Gravel's hand was the first to shoot up, trailed closely by Bill Richardson's, I think also Joe Biden's, and then after he thought about it for a while, Kucinich raised his too.

iiiijjjj, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha wtf Kooch

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't even know Gravel was running

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

I'd never even heard of him. He was jumping out of his skin with anger earlier, talking about how there were so many lives wasted with Vietnam, and we're wasting so many more now in Iraq, and the only thing worse than wasted soldiers' lives is wasting more soldiers lives. He also just made fun of the other candidates for being younger than him.

Obama, articulate as always, is winning the thing as far as I'm concerned. He talked a bit more about his healthcare pool plan, and Richardson talked about how his plan was to NEVER EVER EVER increase the bureaucracy.

iiiijjjj, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

shit has this already started?? ive got my tv tuned to espn about shit i could mostly care less about right now

deeznuts, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:54 (eighteen years ago)

Hillary Clinton, Chris Dodd, and John Edwards apologized for voting for the war.

xpost Yeah it started at 7PM EST.

iiiijjjj, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

damn its only on msnbc i guess, wow

deeznuts, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

Hillary Clinton... apologized for voting for the war.

!!!? are you fuckin serious? I kinda can't believe Hillary would do this - she certainly has resisted apologizing for it up to now, or even admitting it was wrong.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:57 (eighteen years ago)

Joe Biden did too I think.

John Edwards, speaking about how the US needs to invest more in fuel-efficient autos, said the country needs to get patriotic about more than just war.

iiiijjjj, Thursday, 26 April 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

Haha, the glittery tank top strap slid off the shoulder of an audience member.

Abbott, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:00 (eighteen years ago)

why am I at work instead of watching this BAH

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

Kucinich just produced a pocket copy of the Constitution from his coat pocket (he claims to always keep one there) to help him explain why he feels that Cheney ought to be impeached.

iiiijjjj, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

nice

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:21 (eighteen years ago)

Damn and I was about to go No Media for the night and read a book.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:27 (eighteen years ago)

Well shit I guess I caught the last two minutes.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

OMG WHO IS THAT GLORIOUS REDHEAD

Abbott, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:31 (eighteen years ago)

And wtf w/Biden re: Hillary?

Abbott, Friday, 27 April 2007 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

Believe it or not that redhead is Mrs. Kucinich! As in, she chose Dennis Kucinich above all others. She grew up in the 80's, he the 50's.

iiiijjjj, Friday, 27 April 2007 01:01 (eighteen years ago)

Er but technically she's not a Kucinich, she's Elizabeth Harper.

iiiijjjj, Friday, 27 April 2007 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

"Bush is barred by the Constitution from running for re-election next fall, and the result is an extraordinarily early start to the campaign to succeed him."

Wow. Thank you, Chicago Tribune. I wonder if the weather page explains what season are.

RJG, Friday, 27 April 2007 01:28 (eighteen years ago)

I am in severe love w/her.

Abbott, Friday, 27 April 2007 01:42 (eighteen years ago)

Hillary Clinton... apologized for voting for the war.

I didnt watch one second of this, but ive read three write-ups of it so far and none have mentioned this. If she actually did this it would be all over drudge and fox news.

g®▲Ðұ, Friday, 27 April 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)

Wait is that THE BNW? Where the hell you been, man.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 April 2007 02:08 (eighteen years ago)

omghai2u ragget! I only surface every 4 years for a Kucinich fix now.

bnw, Friday, 27 April 2007 02:18 (eighteen years ago)

I didnt watch one second of this, but ive read three write-ups of it so far and none have mentioned this. If she actually did this it would be all over drudge and fox news.

Maybe I misheard, sorry. All I've been able to find about that is:

Clinton defended her initial vote to approve the U.S. invasion of Iraq, saying she did the best she could with the information she was given at the time. “If I knew then what I know now, I would not have voted that way,” she said, insisting that “the question is, what do we do now?” (source)

She said something else too that prompted Chris Matthews afterward to call it the closest she'd come to an outright apology, but I can't find any transcripts.

iiiijjjj, Friday, 27 April 2007 02:34 (eighteen years ago)

If she actually did this it would be all over drudge and fox news.

Foxnews.com's headline right now is "Dem Hopefuls Spar Over Who's More Anti-War" which is pretty great on its own.

Clay, Friday, 27 April 2007 02:38 (eighteen years ago)

omghai2u ragget! I only surface every 4 years for a Kucinich fix now.

Amazing!

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 April 2007 02:46 (eighteen years ago)

Just got home, anyone know where I can find a replay?

en i see kay, Friday, 27 April 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)

There's a little video section where you can watch the whole thing here.

iiiijjjj, Friday, 27 April 2007 03:15 (eighteen years ago)

Many thanks.

en i see kay, Friday, 27 April 2007 03:23 (eighteen years ago)

Man, Richardson is such a hand-talker. I can already see the awful Horatio Sanz impression.

Wait, is Horatio Sanz still around?

en i see kay, Friday, 27 April 2007 03:32 (eighteen years ago)

i follow this stuff like mad but have a hard time watching debates, for some reason.. always waiting for someone to say something dumb

and yeah, kucinich's wife looks like a model, wtf!

daria-g, Friday, 27 April 2007 03:42 (eighteen years ago)

Fuckin' Gravel! Fuckin' Richardson! I love these men!

Eazy, Friday, 27 April 2007 03:56 (eighteen years ago)

this blew

deeznuts, Friday, 27 April 2007 04:03 (eighteen years ago)

Gravel says that the military-industrial complex runs not only our government but our culture, and says we should make it a felony to fight in Iraq, and is a former Senator from a red state. What's not to love?

Eazy, Friday, 27 April 2007 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

The assholes are already clamouring about how "THEY ALL TOOK PRIVATE JETS! NO ONE JET POOLED"

kingfish, Friday, 27 April 2007 04:09 (eighteen years ago)

Aw, sic some gravel on Matt Drudge.

Eazy, Friday, 27 April 2007 04:11 (eighteen years ago)

kingfish, Friday, 27 April 2007 04:21 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't even know Gravel was running

Apparently no one did.

Please 'take out' Chris Matthews ... somebody....

Dr Morbius, Friday, 27 April 2007 13:26 (eighteen years ago)

“If I knew then what I know now, I would not have voted that way,”

except that uh, we DID know then what we knew now. whatevs hillary.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 27 April 2007 15:44 (eighteen years ago)

(ie that there were no weapons of mass destruction, there was no reason at all for the invasion, forcing democracy on the country would be a next-to-impossible task, ethnic/religious rivalries would come to the fore, etc. People were saying all of this shit well ahead of the war).

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 27 April 2007 15:45 (eighteen years ago)

I would love to see a sitcom based on Dennis Kucinich and wife, starring Martin Short and Julianne Moore.

Woah, this is neat:
Tag cloud for each debater.

Eazy, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

lol @ clinton's biggest word being "PRESIDENT"

"NABISCO OTM"

deej, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

the funniest thing about that tag-balloon biz is that it gives you a nice graphical representation of what a blowhard Biden is.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 27 April 2007 16:59 (eighteen years ago)

And Richardson, being the master negotiator, has DEAL.

Eazy, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:00 (eighteen years ago)

biggest words for Biden: "Better" with "talk" and "talking" close behind.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 27 April 2007 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 27 April 2007 18:11 (eighteen years ago)

But his widdle bow tie and his side part do not scream POWAH, unless the wee constitution book in his pocket gives him some kind of invisible forcefield of prowess and sexitude.

Abbott, Friday, 27 April 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

she does not even look like she's from the same planet as him.

kenan, Friday, 27 April 2007 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

She should be president. It could be like Phillip K. Dick's THE SIMULACRA!

Abbott, Friday, 27 April 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)
